Edgar Allan Poe died between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on October 7th, 1849 in Washington College Hospital while being attended by Dr. John J. Moran. His remains were moved to an adjacent church known today as the Westminster Burying Grounds. With him, lie his wife, Virginia Clemm and his Aunt Maria Clemm.

According to the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimores web site, each year since 1949, a lone mysterious visitor known as the Poe Toaster enters the cemetery and deposits a tribute to Poe and his family. The visitors identity remains unknown. The tribute consists of three roses and a partial bottle of cognac.

In addition to the half empty (or full, whichever way you look at it) bottle of cognac left at Senor Poe's gravesite each year upon his birthday, is also yet another legacy to his greatness. Some other dedicated, albeit unknown, admirerer of Poe's additionally sees fit to jerk off into an empty bottle of Miller Genuine Draft and leaves it along with pages torn from the years most recent edition of a little known and unwidely published negro nudity magazine called "Raven"........ ... Believe me, my story checks out

Give me a break the Poe Toaster. What's to stop me or anyone dressing up with roses and a bottle of cognac and doing the same thing. Are you telling me that all these years that watergate type reporters cannot find the identify of the "mysterious stanger"? I am sure at one time there was such a person but I think now it is just a publicity stunt.
