Spot welding aluminum sheet metal parts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

How reliable is spot welding aluminum sheet metal parts together when the loading is mainly tension? We are spot welding .125 inch panels to .064 inch chassis. Are the different thickness' a problem for spot welding? thanks! Hans Bos

Your machines type and size are critical when welding aluminum. Are you working towards commercial quality or military quality. To weld aluminum you need a lot of current in a short amount of time. Three Phase or capacitor discharge machines are best!!
