Encoders a thing of the past????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I want to share some information with you all on the creation of VCD's. I got started months ago with a Pinnacle Studio MP10. To make a long story short, the hardware from that package REALLY SUCKED, but the software (studio) has yet to be matched. Through discovery, I have found that I can input AVI's into the studio program, (which has automatic scene detection) do all the fancy transitions and fades, and save the "movie" as a mpeg-1 file that is taken by Adaptec EZ CD Creator V4 with NO PROBLEMS!!!!! No longer do I need to run that file through Panasonic or the new TMPEG encoder, which saves me literally HOURS of post processing time. (So much for screwing around, huh!?!?) ALSO, for all you VideoWave III people out there, you can "produce" a VCD movie that is also accepted by Adaptec without the use of an encoder, but the results are blocky, and DO NOT EVEN COME CLOSE to the quality of output from the Studio software.

The reason I'm telling you this because I have spent numerous hours running mpegs through the popular encoders which might not necessarily need to be run through... if in doubt, let Adaptec tell you that your mpeg is non-conformant, then deal with it. Who knows, Adaptec may take it and it will save you tons of wait-time!

BTW, the output to TV via a philips 711 DVD player is AWESOME! Someone tell pinnacle to sell there software as a stand alone product!

Hi Scot,

What's the name of the software that came with Pinnacle Studio MP10?

The software is called "STUDIO". Write me offline for details.

The MP10 is a hardware encoder, the software has nothing to do with it, that little box houses some electronics that do all the work.

To: FunOne,

DO you have any idea what you are talking about? Of course the MP10 is a hardware device... The software that comes with the MP10 works as a stand-alone product. You do not need the hardware to use the software. The pinnacle software "STUDIO" has yet to be matched as far as power, speed, and ease of use...
