CCD or CMOS?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Planning to buy a digicam soon. One area I've been exploring is the difference between CCD and CMOS. It would seem that higher end cameras use CCD sensor arrays. A lot of the information I've found seems to be somewhat outdated. What is the current state of CMOS technology? From what I understand it has a lot of advantages included much lower power usage. Do CCD's still produce a better image?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave--the only 'good' digicam that I know of that uses a CMOS is the so-new-it's-not-available Canon EOS D30. The users of these digicam forums believe that Canon has come up with an excellent design and execution of this sensor, based on pic samples available so far.

So...wait and see and evaluate, and then buy the CAMERA you want, not the SENSOR.
