Why do you do YOUR hobby?--Al

For me, my hobby is something I am so deeply interested in and following it so pleasurable that I am immersed in doing it to the exclusion of all other thoughts. Unless the alarm is rung by Heather or a cyclone takes off the roof. My hobby is something that is not an everyday activity, not too expensive but happy making and exhilarating for me. And - - selfishly, I have more than one !

I do tai chi/yoga/sword fighting because, to my horror I'm now old enough that I don't effortlessly stay thin anymore. Eating chocolate, fried foods, and desserts started having repercussions after I left my teens. I hated sports, so I had to find some kind of exercise that I liked.

I read and write science fiction/fantasy because it temporarily takes me out of this word and into a different one. My job keeps me firmly grounded in the problems of this world: disabilities, poverty, lack of money for public schools, school violence, etc. After dealing with these things, I like a story that will take me a few galaxies away.
