Sony S70 White balance problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

When making outdoor pictures with my Sony S70 I'm having problems to get correct colors. If I put a peace of white paper in my composition it always turns out a little blue and never white. Doe someone have a cure for this problem (fine tuning the white balance). Also I don't know when and how I must use the "hold" setting with the white balance settings.

Hi, I will be getting my S70 tomorrow...

I will have a look and report back to see if I get the same problem

Hi, William: Are you sure that you do not have a computer screen color adjustment problem, rather than a problem with the white balance in the camera? I've had an S70 for about a month now and, compared to two other quality digital cameras I have used, the color balance on AUTO has been just about perfect outdoors, indoors, and with flash. The one exception (also noted in the excellent review of the Sony S70 on this website) is fluorescent lighting, which is a notoriously difficult problem in film-based photography as well. In fact, I find that I have to make only minimal corrections in Photoshop to obtain thermal dye sublimation prints with beautiful skin tones. Try leaving your white balance on AUTO and use OUT DOOR only for sunsets or evening shots. If you use a Macintosh, you may want to run ADOBE GAMMA on your system. Hope this will be reassuring.
