hey- Read Tuan's essay on this subject in the yosemite rock page. I believe there are places in Europe where you can do this legally, if you really want to.

It's illegal because too many people have died and/or been injured. I think that it should be up to the visitors if they want to jump or not, but then again someone who's not particapating may get killed by someone who crashed into them, so it goes both way. Perhaps in the future they'll make a designated BASE jumping area but i highly doubt that.

Hi, Base jumping is not illegal. Trespasing, Areal delivery (in Yosimite) and breach of the peace are what you get done for. Base jumping in itself as far as I know is not illigal in a country in the world.

Base jumping in itself isnt illegal, its the where and when that are....for example its totally legal to go to moab, Utah (or any BLM land) and jump your ass off, but if you set foot in a national park then all of the sudden the rules change. By crossing over that imaginary line you now stand the chance of being charged with a felony and fined up to 2000 dollars, they also seize all of you gear and you dont get it back. So you are taking a 4000 dollar gamble by doing it. Also, any site that you are trespassing on, such as an antenna or the top of a building; is also illegal, but they can only charge you with trespassing, public endangerment, and or disturbing the piece....but if you have a good lawyer , the only one that will stick is the trespassing charge. All in all the restrictions are bullshit, you are only endangering yourself when you base jump...no one has ever died by being hit by a base jumper, it just doesnt happen, so that excuse holds no water....well anyway I will stop rambling now, hope that answered you question.
