Duncan latest

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Newcastle and Everton have agreed fee. All offered terms accepted by Drunken. One last stumbling block, he wants a big '###thank-you very much###' from NUFC, for the 3 yrs left on contract, like he got when he left Everton. The greedy pidgeon f**cker.

I have to say (and probably against the grain) that Ferguson is the kind of player l don't get at all excited about watching. And the reason? Tied nicely in with this cash demand - he's selfish. I agree with all the positive things about his game that people have pointed out, but the fact is he's achieved sod all in the game. He's an underachiever. He could have been more, but he's too interested in Duncan Ferguson. Stick Beardsley's attitude in Fergusons play and he would be terriffic - sadly he's not. Bobby today looks like he's got rid of two crocks for round 6-8 mil. Add that to the departing stiffs and l'm well impressed...

I take your point Swift but those 'crocks' have both been sold from areas where you traditionally need more than average cover. What are we going to get for 6-8 million? More foreigners, that's what and i think we've got quite enough of them.

To compare anyone with Beardsley's attitude is dreaming as it's obviously (as the great man would say many times!) a level no-one is going to surpass.

Shearer looks after No.1 as do a large percentage of our players, I don't see it as a fault.

Right Swift. He's a darling of many, and many on this BBS. But on the numerous occasions he couldn't get psyched up for us, your better with 10 men. I finally lost the little patience I had for the big man at Feyenoord last Saturday. His heart has rarely been in it for us, he'll feel more at home at Everton where he's sure of a big homecoming. He's going to go back to them no matter what, so I hope NUFC don't give in to his demands of another golden f**k off.

I've never been a Large Duncan fan , He has one good game in three then is injured for another 3 months, I would pay him off, then with whatever money is left put it towards Mpenza. Wwe would then start the season with 4 top strikers , not 3 and a half. 4 world class strikers might sound a little greedy, but with the inevitable injuries and suspensions it's a neccesity.

I must've caught Mpenza on a bad day when I watched him cos I thought he had a lot to learn, he may score a few goals but he misses a few chances aswell. I like big Dunc and cannot see the good business sense in a loss of 4 million, interestingly enough tho' Everton fans are not exactly jumping with joy at the prospect of his homecoming.

Agree with ya Tony, and I must have seen Mpenza on the same bad day(s). He shows promise, but could easily be another Andrea/JDT. Certianly don't want him for the kind of money his club were asking. I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but for now he's a no-go for me.

Ciara,

To my recollection, no one on here is actually saying "we've got to go out buy M'Penze". However, the logic is that BR chased him very hard recently so he must rate the kid. Now that he's probably 'Duncanless' and got a few bob, it seems entirely logical that he could go back and see if he can get him for sensible money.

Like others, I wasn't really impressed with his performances in Euro200, but that was a very tough performance measure - AND BR has good judgement.

My own memory of the lad in Euro2000 was of David Pleat commenting "if his brain was as fast as his feet, he'd be a good player!"

Clarky, If Duncans brain was as fast as his feet, he'd trip up!

YBR also brought in Fumaca. He may walk on water, but he's still prone to human mistakes. I just said I'm happy to be proved wrong, but for now I've got my doubts. As I also said...there's also reasons I'm not a manager. :-))

I think the point is a good team need atleast 4 top strikers. The last time we had this was ...... Actually we never have had 4 decent strikers which is Ok untill you get a couple of injuries, then your playing for a draw and throwing away points. I would take whatever you can get for Ferguson and get another youngster with potential.

Well we have:

Shearer as the only one with proven EPL ability.

Cort has shown some very good EPL promise over the past two seasons, and many of us expect him to do the biz this season, and on into the future.

Cordone, from reports, appears to be trickster who should do well, but as yet hasn't experienced the EPL.

Gallacher provides, experience, continued running, and hopefully some decent shots on goal.

Coppinger as a younger version of Gallacher - widely and highly touted by Softie - only better.

Then Bobby supposedly has first rights of refusal on Jason Euell at Wimbledon.

Well I'll throw in another name: Roque Santa Cruz. Gavilans international team mate currently at Bayern Munich.
