Konica Hexar RF: don't buy one

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

If you have in mind the idea of buying a Konica Hexar RF, contact me first and let me try to dissaude you.

I am not a fussy guy (you should hear the nice things I say about most of my cameras), and I believe that this camera was a good idea, but it has been so poorly executed that you should not buy it. I'll not take up space here with my tale of woe, but if you're inclined, drop me an e-mail first.

John,

If you are worried about this being the wrong site to discuss your information about the Hexar, please try the Leica site within this same board. There are many rangefinder guys in there who would love to hear your story. The Hexar is used by a couple of guys, (with Leica lenses), and some of us are concidering the camera as a back up to the M series.

You will definitly start a dialog... and depending on your story, possibly save some of us problems.

In response to Al's and Sergio Ortega's suggestion, I have written up my experience at the Leica forum. Here's the address:

JOHN:

My experience is 180 Deg opposite. I have teh full kir and I love it, I got it by trading in an M6 outfit. It works well, the negs/slides are AT LEAST the equal in any respects ( 15x prints on B&W and from slides) to the Leica results I gave up, AND I don't have to deal with Leica distributors.

I have since bought a used M6 and 50 'Cron ( no Distributors!! just service guys if, as and when needed) and would not like to part with either. The RF is, as many have said, what Leica could have done if they were awake.

I would like to hear your tale of woe.

Cheers
