Perceptive professionals!

I went to a "Fans Forum" at Port Vale last night. We got the usual bullshit from the chairman (Toon by no means have a monopoly on this - Vale's bloke is a bliddy stunner!). Anyway I asked a question to the First team coach and club captain. "If you could have one player in the team from those you saw at Euro 2000, who would it be?" They both went for the same man - guess who......?

Serious answer, either Taggart's new 'darling', Barthez, or the Italian goalkeeper?

Yes I am going to answer Gave - just haven't had a chance to get at me 'puter this morning till now.

Sting actually got it right - they both unhesitatingly picked Big Al. Said he was grossly underrated and still a marvellous player - worked all over the pitch, etc. Nice to hear two of his peers say all that about the great man.

A class apart once again ( Shearer not me ) .. nice to hear people saying that kind of thing though , i was beginning to think us Geordies are the only one that like him .. actually when i was in Washington there was a lad sat next to us in a Birmingham shirt who was singing Als name all game , couldnt shut him up , and he was getting major abuse from other so called English fans ... great to see .
