turning slides into photos

I WANT TO TAKE LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY WITH MY NIKON F5 AND BE ABLE TO ENLARGE THEM TO APROX 16X22 WITH THE THE BEST QUALITY AS POSSIBLE. WHAT TYPE OF FILM SHOULD I USE AND SHOULD I SHOOT SLIDES? CAN QUALITY PRINTS BE MADE FROM SLIDES OR SHOULD I JUST MOVE TO A MEDIUM FORMAT CAMERA FOR THIS PURPOSE? THANKS, MRRGY

In order to helpful answer, I suggest not typing in all caps. The folks on the main Q&A page will flame you for laziness.

I think this same question already appeared there with similar responses.

For best results at 16x20 (x20 is a common enlargement size, not x22), use an 8x10 view camera. To get such an enlargement, you must magnify a 35mm image approximately 17x, a medium format image approximately 7x, and an 8x10 image by a mere 2x. If you don't want to buy a view camera, you can just rent one.

Come to think of it, an even better solution is to get your hands on a 16x20 view camera (big and uncommon, but they do exist). That way, it's a 1:1 photo to print ratio. If you use negative film, it'll be a contact print.

16x20 view camera=camera $5000, lens $2000, film holders $500 each, film $15 a picture. Also a very awkward piece of equipment and entirely unnecessary. If you need to use 35mm use the slowest color negetive film possible at small apertures (use a good sturdy tripod and a cable release) Of course the larger the negetive the sharper the image at 16x20. A 4x5 image from a 35mm negative is comperable to a 16x20 with a 4x5 negetive. Goodluck!
