Has anyone tried using the Belkin VideoBus USB capture?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the Belkin VideoBus capture thingie... and if it is any good. I'm currently using the Python (parallel port) and to say the least, it sucks. I'm wondering if the VideoBus would yield better results. If not what other options do I have for better video? I only have a laptop.

Thanks in advance.

I just bought the Belkin Videobus II so that I could import from an analog camcorder into my PC and create DVDs of my home videos. I have a fast PC (Pentium 4, 1.8 GHz, 512 Meg RAM and 80 Gig Hard Drive). I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows XP from the Belkin website.

Though the Belkin Videobus II captures relatively clear pictures, and the sound is very sharp stereo, the picture is definitely CHOPPY, irritatingly so. Belkin claims to capture 30 frames per second. My capture software tells me no frames were dropped (as I said, my PC is very fast), and yet the picture is choppy. Unfortunately, I do not know of any better alternatives.
