HiI was wondering which is the smallest digital still camera which I could buy for home use under 1000 $.
Thanks for your responses. Nikhil

I believe that would be the Canon Digital IXUS aka: Powershot S100 Digital Elph.

There was an item on the news page at www.imaging-resource.com , a day or so ago, about a digicam built into a "hi-lighter" sized case...Frankly, buying a digital camera based on size, strikes me as being nearly as sensible as buying an automobile based on color, or the brand of the radio installed -a time tested and highly recommended practice(by used car salesmen). ;-)
Perhaps, you should also consider how much resolution is needed for your intended uses(non critical web use only - 640x480, small prints - 1MP, up to 5x7" & maybe 8x10" - 2MP, 300PPI pro looking 5"x7s and larger - 3.3MP), battery life, shot to shot time, burst modes, macro ability, etc.
Just reading some of the reviews at www.imaging-resource.com and www.steves-digicams.com would help you get an idea of what features might sway you. If you're looking to reproduce images, of any reasonable size, in print then consider a 2 or 3 megapixel camera. I've printed 8"x10s from a 1280x1024(1.25MP) resolution image, but they don't convey the detail produced by an 8x10" from a 2 or 3 MP camera.
If you're really interested in what people who own a model think of it, then consider the user reviews at www.dcforum.com -they can't be beaten for candor, or in some cases downright fawning or aggravated venting... :-) Do yourself a favor and throw out the best and worst examples of each to help normalize the curve.
Good Luck!

The Cannon digital elph S100 is probably it. At around $600 it's a 2.1 megapixel 2x optical zoom, relatively easy to use, very good features, and even comes with the charger. Takes very good pics too. I personally have been nothing but pleased with this little camera.
