VR 80-400mm AF Nikkor

...anybody heard any rumours why the above-mentioned lens doesn4t seem to reach the market? I believe it was announced for late spring! Technical problems or some marketing scheme?

The original Nikon PR for the US said August, so it's not late yet.

Nikon probably couldn't copy Canon's image stabilizer design in good time, even after all these years, so be patient. It will take a couple of years.

Steve, Nikon has announced an 80-400mm VR lens, you can seew pictures of it on Nikon's web page (let me know if I misunderstood you comment).

Nick, announcing it is all very fine, but we have been waiting for it since the beginning of this year, when the pre-production test lens was showcased and reviewed by Moose Peterson (was it him?) It is already approaching September, and there is nothing. It appears as if they have some glitches to iron out, and it is taking a hell of a long time, and at this rate, I don't expect to see this lens out very soon.
