al-d, of all the posts you've made on this forum, I totally agree with this one. In fact, I read somewhere that future wars may be fought over water and water rights.

Environmentalists have been concerned about the food issue for quite awhile as farmland is gobbled up by sub-divisions, strip malls and thousands of miles of highways, and the population increases by leaps and bounds.

I heard Jeremy Rifkin on public radio today. Businesses are moving from selling to leasing, it retains customers. Ford gets 54% of leasers back, but only 12% of purchasers.

He said that Monsanto is selling the rights to use the "intellectual property" of the seeds, not the seeds themselves. A farmer who grows a crop may not save seeds for next year the "intellect' belongs to Monsanto.

Gerry Guidetti reported last year that some companies are producing genetically modified seed that produces sterile seeds. You have to buy every year. Furthermore this seed will not sprout unless soaked in a special solution sold only by the seed company.

A few seed giants are trying to take over.
