Non-Footie - Alec Guiness

Been reading through the papers online and found out that Sir Alec Guiness has finally become one with the Force.

Greatly saddened to hear that a hero of my younger years will no longer entertain or be annoyed that people will mostly remember him for Star Wars.

Star Wars? Kids' stuff.

No, Kind Hearts and Coronets is the one I'll remember him for. A masterpiece like so many of the Ealing comedies.

Great actor; wonderful voice - RIP.

Ironic for such a fabulous classical actor he will be a largely remembered as Obe-wan-kanobee. BBC News reckoned that he hated doing Star Wars, but most of his latter wealth was down to him negotiating a small % of profits. Smart cookie!

He may have hated Star Wars, but it shows his quality as an actor. Not many actors today have the variety that he had. Bridge over the River Kwai is a classic. He'll be sadly missed.
