Printers.....A cheap photo quality printer, some help please!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Having got a DSC-S70 on order, I am now looking into a printer, at the moment I have a DJ690c, which I'm sure doesn't produce photo quality images (I haven't tried, as you need a 'photo cart' and they are #30!, and it is only 300dpi)

While I was at the computer shop I quickly looked at the DJ930c, I was given a test print out (if you have seen them it is a A6 printout of a cat) and I can't tell it apart from my normal photos. Does anyone have this printer - is it good?

Would anyone suggest a better printer at the same price band - #130 ($200) I can't spend anymore as the camera cleaned me out!

Regards....Richard

Have a peek at the Epson 760, 860 for low end 4 color printers that do a very impressive job for $130-160, or so. If you can stretch the budget a bit farther, go for the Epson 870. It's a 6 color inkjet, provides 1440x720 DPI, and the ink and paper combination is rated to last as conventional prints.

I have an Epson 760 and continue to be very impressed with my $130 printer. If I was going to do it again, I might consider spending $275 for the 870 and calling it a "long term investment"... ;-)

Good Luck!

I would second the Epson recommendation. Another way to save a bundle is to learn to reload your cartridges, keeping in mind that Epson, in some of their newer high end printers, has made this much more difficult. They want you to buy their inks at highly inflated prices. I have had my printer two years and I have bought one cartridge set for it, and this was before I knew how easy they were to reload. There are plenty of sites on the web with instructions for reloading Epson, Canon, HP, etc. cartridges.

Well I brought a DJ930c, and it is well worth the money, I printed a 10x8 on Photo paper from the Far Field picture and it is very impressive!

Well thanks for your help

I have an Epson 750 photo, but have seen excellent results from the latest of the 600 series, the Stylus 670, this costs #100 or less in the UK and is blinding for the price, it is 1440x720 DPI and has four colours including black..

I experimented with a lot of ink printers and highly recommend Epson Stylus Photo 870 or 1270(for larger printouts) series. If you use the new photo paper designed for these models it will give a real photograph effect (I mean it - really hard to distinguish). Store price for 870 is $299, Epson makes huge variety of media of an excellent quality and very reasonably priced. You may order cartridges for this model on the Internet for as low as $15. BTW, it empties cartridges fast enough if you print at high resolution. HP makes good working horses, but they are not even close if it comes to photo printing (my opinion). P.S. I use the same camera that you've ordered.
