Injury Report

From this morning's Journal:

AS - has had another steroid injection in his knee in an attempt to clear up tendonitis. He has experienced a fairly normal 'reaction' to the injection, and misses tonights game in Holland.
YKD - is suffering from shin splints and also misses tonights game
Howey - suffering from an undisclosed injury and didn't travel
Domi - still not fit after his rib injury
Gavilan - also out, with a septic heel

On a more positive note, DF has trained 'well' during the last two days and makes the trip after recovering from a virus and a calf injury (!). He is likely to play, but not from the start.

The situation concerning AS & YKD is most worrying, with both increasingly likely to miss the manure game. Knowing AS's resolve he will probably play, but his condition now reveals the full folly of him playing 3 relatively meaningless friendlies for England and a further 3 in Euro2000 when he clearly wasn't fit.
I know from personal experience that other than steroid injections, which help to reduce the inflammation, the only real cure for tendonitis is rest. Over-use of the steroid is dangerous as it softens the tendon, and increases the likelihood of a more serious injury. For this reason, doctors are usually very reluctant to administer more than three injections. Therefore, it seems that we are on a knife-edge with the man we can least do without, but also a man who will be determined to play on, regardless.

Very worrying.

If the Journal is correct, then I agree with you Clarky - its worrying that we have so many potential short to medium term injuries. The effect of losing AS especially for the Manure game is going to be massive. Along side Cordones injury it means there are dark clouds over what was expected to be a sunny start.

Ho hum

despite typing Bassedas, it may appear as Cordone.

Phew! Gave me a fright, yes you did. Thought Cordone was injured somehow during Wor Bobby's tirade against Carvet(how do you spell his name, anyway???) for not signing with Charlton.

Although the injury to Al is a tad disconcerting and as you rightly point out Clarky, more annoying due the uneccessary nature of the games he palyed prior to Euro 2000, I cannot believe YBR,with his vast experience would risk anything and feel Al will be handled well. Have a feeling he will be ok Howey's situation is ridiculous and he makes Anderton at Spurs look value for money. Just how long the club is prepared to even consider him as an alternative at Centre half needs looking at.He cannot be relied upon at all and IMHO we are down to Goma,Dabizas and Marcelino. I include the latter as we paid so much for him and continue to pay him a fortune each week. Bobby needs to give this area TOP priority and until we have a commanding and reliable centre half i think we will struggle defensively I am sure YBR is not convinced about what he has at his disposal and has made efforts to solve the problem. His reaction to Charvet suggests he wants rid in order to add another defender. So, a pre -season which YBR has said was 'gentle' has so far robbed us of Al,Dyer,Howey,Gavilan,Bassedas,Domi plus a non appearing Ferguson and the always away Solano Great start On top of this the club are still not saying exactly how many tickets are available for the first two games Good mood Im in
