Color quality - Nikon Coolpix 800 vs Canon S10

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have narrowed my research to the Canon S10, or the Nikon CoolPix 800. I used your 'Comparometer' and was 'shocked' to see the difference (espeically the picture of 'The DaveBox').

It appears to me that the S10 picture has much more vivid color and its 'white' is much better (the Coolpix 800 'whites' look 'grey' to me).

Is this an accurate indicator of the color quality of each of these cameras?

Depends on your monitor and its calibration. I provide photos which go out all over the world and the last thing I can worry about is how it looks on someone else's monitor. I have 10 computers calibrated closely to each other as well as graphic application and print output. There is no simple answer to this yet, but the problem is being addressed and, hopefully in the next months there will be some unanimity in display of colors throughtout browsers. Output to print is another topic which becomes even more complicated. What image editing software do you use?
