rudy--open the pic file in your image editor and set the size to no more than 9" wide and/or no more than 8" tall and the resolution to 72dpi. The latter is very important. That should decrease the file size significantly. Then, save it as a JPG file, and with a low quality level if you have that option. The file size should be somewhere in the 10K to 50K range. Then, if the file needs to be smaller, set the dimensions smaller. I've e-mailed friends with high- speed connections 10 pics ranging from 75K to 100K without problems. But if you do that to a friend with a "56K" (HA!) connection, he/she may not be a friend any more.

If you are using Photoshop then use "save a copy" and be sure and check "exclude all non-image data". This will further drop your image size.
