I think the home team got two goals and the away team got five. Just a hunch mind.

I wonder if Coppinger got on the sheet again? Perhaps another youngin pushing for a place in the first team squad?

Gosh, thanks Screach, any idea how long the game lasted and what shape ball they used?

Ciara, Coppinger is a little gem and I will be gutted if we sell him without giving him a chance. He's different to the others we have, his game is all about pace and trickery but unlike Dyer he can usually get the ball in the back of the net. With no other good young'un ready to step into the reserves from the juniors, he has to be worth hanging onto, surely?

Sorry Softie. I only answer easy questions. Gizzacloo - was Taggart reffing?

Anyone know who actually played?

Softie, from the way John Carver spoke, it sounds like Coppinger is in their plans for now. He nearly made the US tour, but with all the strikers in the squad already, they felt he'd get alot more playing time with the reserves. He also enjoyed hearing that one of our dedicated R teamers rates Copps so highly.

And Coppinger scored another two yesterday! Presumably he will be officially removed from the list asap.

KETSBAIA INSPIRES MAGPIES

Temuri Ketsbaia scored twice and created numerous problems for a Berwick Rangers side who were beaten 5-2 by Newcastle.
In the first half Berwick were torn apart by the brilliance of Georgian international Ketsbaia and Nigerian Shola Ameovi.
The hosts held on for 18 minutes playing neat football but then Ketsbaia surged down the left and crossed low for Ameovi to score.
Nine minutes later Ketsbaia crashed a superb 25-yarder into the net and he also made it 3-0 with a solo break from halfway after being released by Jamie McClen.
James Coppinger hit a Berwick post and immediately after the restart Garry Brady also struck the woodwork.
Ameovi almost stretched the Newcastle lead but after working his way through he opted to pass to Coppinger, who netted from an offside position.
Gary Wood came on as substitute for Berwick after 75 minutes and with his first touch reduced the deficit.
Three minutes from time Darren Smith snatched an opportunist second for Berwick but Newcastle promptly killed off the revival with a Coppinger effort from close range.
Sixty seconds later Ketsbaia produced a defence-splitting pass for Coppinger to net his second of the match.

defence splitting pass? Are they sure it wasn't a shot from the half way line?

Did old Ket's mam write that report or summat?

or his agent.

I shall modestly claim full credit for this miracle. He's obviously hanging on my every word and taking the 'I'll show that miserable owld bugga' approach.

Apologies if you've seen this on another thread - seems more appropriate here.

it seems there is some up-and-coming striker ewvery season. Dalglish, Robinson and now Coppinger. I hope we don't sell them all - this one sounds like the best of the lot

This one was the best of the lot when they all kept waffling on about the other two. Until Chopra is old enough to play regularly at a higher level then it would be utter madness to sell Coppinger. The other 2 had the courage and desire to put themselves about and show that they could grow up to be centre forwards, but Coppinger's skills are already in place: he depends on pace and sleight of foot to get himself through and scores in the old Andy Cole zone from 6 inches to 6 yards out.

Coppinger is superior to Dags or Robbo. Hope to see him in the first team this season.
