al, I've been laughing so hard that the tears are rolling down my cheeks.

You're right ... God did make some cool stuff. I wish that I had a couple of fluffy chicks to take into the production meeting. Playing with ducks would beat arguing over the placement of some articles and columns for the rest of the afternoon.

Enjoy the ducks, Al.

al, you give a whole new meaning to "stop and smell the roses".

Just wanted you to know that, because of this post of yours, I actually did take some time to look around last time I was outside. And despite the 110+ temperature and the haze (or smoke, no one's really sure) that obscures most of my view of the mountains, I was pretty impressed.

Thanks.

(Psst -- kb8: Go to this link. See if this helps.)

Thanks, Patricia! I downloaded that picture and scanned it into my memo. Got to do something to lighten things up around here. August bitching is biting very hard.

I had a neat nature experience on Sunday. We saw a butterfly show at the new horticultural garden downtown. Imagine a 4 story glass atrium filled with palms, tropical flowers, flowering water plants and thousands of fluttering butterflies of hundreds of varieties. You couldn't help but smile.

But it was very different than what I expected. I thought we were going to a "whore culture" exhibit.

Lars, it has taken me a good long time to stop laughing over that one :-) (But the exhibit sounds wonderful. The closest thing to anything like that here is the Conservatory at the Bellaggio. It's absolutely spectacular. Much better if you can catch it without so many of the tourists; it can be downright serene.)

"Broken Man", what is an "URTHKWAKE"? Thanks for the lovely picture, BTW.

Can't we have just one damn thread without any of the nonsense? Jeez, I can't wait until school starts again.

I saw a BEAUTIFUL monarch butterfly through the back window yesterday morning, so I thought I'd take my book to the patio for a read. I swatted away a flying grasshopper who was heading for my face and sat down on a chair to read. There are absolutely NO fire-ant mounds near the patio, but an ant crawled onto my foot, waiting until it reached the top of my foot to bite. No problem. I squished it and went on reading. Moments later, another ant crawled onto my foot and halfway up my leg before biting. I squished that one also, and took the time to check around my chair. I saw NO ants ANYWHERE. When the third ant bit, I realized that I was in a shooting gallery and *I* was the target.

The cool stuff is what *I* like. [The pity is that fire-ants think *I*'m the cool stuff.]

Anita, are you a magnet for all things "ant"?! It's got to be something in your Norwegian blood; they probably aren't used to that in Texas :-)

You can lead a horticulture , but you can't make her think.

What kind of meds they got you on these days Al-D? You seem extraordinarily high lately, rather than your usual babbling confused preaching. Or did you just get your first major installment of your settlement?

you know...i clicked on that link and I hate to tell you, in case you missed it, those chicks are raised for the broiler industry, not to mention they are crammed in so tightly, it looks inhumane.
