Well Hello Dolly

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Thought I'd better start a new thread and save you all those nasty emails!

Welcome to our humble home, hope you like it!

So you've been a victim of Jay's humour before then? :o))

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Answers

Not only her sense of humor but her cusine too! ;O))

You should attend one of her BBQs to find out! (only kidding Jay! ;O))

I hope you don't mind me poping over here form time to time when the Strawberry is dead?

Cheers, Dolly.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Not at all. I sometime look in on the Strawberry, but the thread format confuses the hell out of me so I usually just lurk.

We thought we might see Jay in the flesh at Burnley yesterday, but sadly she didn't make it. Still I'm sure she'll invite us all to the next Barby!

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Hi Dolly B! New faces are always welcome on here - hope you enjoy our happy band.(:o)

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

What was the game like?

I saw the highlights on Sky this mornigng. Cort took his goal well!

Are you an exile? I'm now living in Nottingham (Derby in September) originally from Ashington.

I'm hoping to get to the Espanyol v Newcastle game on the 13th. I'll be in Barcelona then and it would be a crime to miss it! Anyone else from here going to that game?

Cheers, Dolly.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Cheers Galaxy, looks busy in here.

Still taking me a while to get used to the format.

Cheers, Dolly.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Hi Dolly Nice to have a fellow Ashingtonian on here (Blyth and Heaton seem to dominate) I hail from 6th Avenue just up from the Hirst Park. My two sisters live around Nottingham now (refugees from the defunct pits) and my elder daughter is at Nottingham University doing her PhD. She lives in Stapleford on the Nottingham/Derby road. Enjoy the BBS, I do.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Dolly, see the thread on the Burnley match for a few unadulterated match reports - mine included!

I'm also an exile (Cheshire) from Ashington (well North Seaton Colliery originally). My Wife too. My mother lives in Katherine Street and her parents live in Cavendish Gardens.

I miss the place like mad and keep trying to get a job back there!

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Oh - Another Ashingtonian. Hi Cliff!

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Dolly, you've probably noticed that you can either view all the current threads (those with postings during last 7 days) by clicking on "show answers". There are also the categories of posting which a thread can be allocated to when you first set one up.

If you go into the format which doesn't show how many answers a thread has and go to the bottom of the page, you get a link which takes you to "the statistics page" which shows that Gav is the biggest dosser on the bbs :-)

The tricky thing is that the system trawls for new messages every 10 minutes or so, so sometimes there will be replies but the the thread counter hasn't moved on. There is also the spooky phenomenon where a thread goes to the top with a new message on but shows less replies than it did a minute before. This is often when the 7 day old threads are being discounted by the server and a new one added.

Cliff and Pilgrim...

I originally lived on Maple Street (I think that's what it's called) before we moved to Woodbridge and then onto the Oval in Bedlington when I was about 6.

Most of the family still live in either Bedlington, Ashington or Blyth. I don't really miss it that much as I moved away when I was only 9. I've totally lost my accent now which is the one thing that annoys me. I sound like I come form Nottm which can be a bit of a hazard when at away games in the Toon end if not careful!

I get back home at least once a month, more if I can get my hands on a spare match ticket or two.

Cheers, Dolly.

Hi Pilgrim My first great love came from Katherine street back in 1963 but she dumped me for a rugby-playing probation officer. Met her many years later in Fenwick's and coincidently we had both called our first-born Melanie. Small world.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Yup, small world indeed!

Ashington Grammar 1966-73 in case there's any more coincidences.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Being only a wee nipper of 23 I doubt any of you went to Milburn Count Primary School?

BTW, Pilgrim, your message about the formats only made half sense. I'll have to look at it later when I've got more time.

Cheers, Dolly.

Sorry P I had to go wedding shopping and I couldn't get out of it :o(

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Why is it when I turn my back for two minutes people are talking about me???

:o((((

Nowt wrong with my cooking either, I didn't kill anyone on Saturday! :o)

Getting wed Jay?

Dolly, I think it's Softie's message, so I'll let him answer that one!

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Galaxy,

Who're you calling happy? it's 32 degrees here and I'm sweating like a rapist in the dock so I'm most definitely not happy ;))

Welcome Dolly....as Softie pointed out I'm usually the biggest dosser on the bbs so just ignore my inanities and you'll fit in with everyone else :)) You might want to note that Softie is in fact the 2nd biggest dosser on the bbs and is only a mere 200 postings behind me when you add up both sets of postings he has.....ignore him as well would be my advice ;)) and whatever you do....don't get involved in his match rigged Corinthian League ;))

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Lord not me P I shudder at the very thought, no my best mate is :o)

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

So it's still within the bounds of possibility that we'll see you and Gav wed yet then? :o))

Sorry - before you rush to answer that, I've got to disappear for a while. TTFN.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Thats right P leg it before I retaliate! :o)

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Dolly so you live in Nottingham? Apparently women out number men on a scale of 3 to 1, you lucky get.

Arrested for anything? fatally wounding a makem nothing too serious you understand. what is the URL for the strawberry I fancy a pint.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Come on Pilgrim pack it in.....everyone should know by now that there's no chance of me marrying a bra burning bird who can't cook and isn't open minded about sex.....

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Welcome Dolly! I see folks have been showing you around already. :-)

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Now Gav calm down. Big difference between possible and probable. :-)

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Gav I'd say using a bra to cook is pretty open minded about sex, (how else would it get burnt) even if it is a little eccentric, I think I'll pass on the pudding, that's PASS.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

I almost forgot, hi Dolly

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Hello Dolly, seen you on RTG a couple of times, I tend to hide who I am on there as I got so much abuse even when I was trying to be civil.

We lived in Toton/Beeston/Chilwell for 4 years in the mid-80s when we both worked at Boots, still go back and stay with friends in West Bridgford once a year or so.

-- Anonymous, August 01, 2000

Hi Dolly,

Anyone know where Red Row was?

My grandparents used to live in Ashington, cannot remember the street. Any of you remember the Fergusons?

If any of your parents had anything to do with the church they may remember them.

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

gus red row was near amble widdrington that area only one row of houses i have a brother in law here in melbourne who lived there mick grey

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Pilgrim, AGS was not built when I was a lad but my younger sister was there 1961-66. Gus REED RAH as it is pronounced was a couple of corrigated iron terraces which were actually painted green

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Thanks all for making me feel welcome!

syme, the women in Nottm do out number the guys 3-1. Taking a stroll round the city on a sunny day at luchtime is a must...beautiful scenery! ;O)) Also, the URL for The Strawberry is http://www.thestrawberry.net

Macbeth, I'm sure I remeber you form the old official nufc forum, when it was black and yellow and really slow? Also, you didn't post as 'notts' on RTG did you about 6 months ago?

Tony, our offices are in West Bridgford on Bridgford Road overlooking the cricket ground. Gets mad on test days!

Ciara, yeah everyones been really good and made me feel welcome. I'm still trying to get used to this format hence my responding to everyone in one message!

Cheers, Dolly.

Please note I have dumped my cookies and changed my e-mail :o)

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Thanks mick and Cliff,

My grandparents also lived there for a while. I was just wondering if any of the other "country lads" knew where it was. Most on here are from the Toon!!

Me I'm a hick from Shilbottle!

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Cliff,

My elder sister (Janice Alexander) went to AGS 61-68. See if your asister remembers her.

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Gus, If your from Shilbottle then my Aunt Vera McLean was head teacher at the old country school at the top of the village and my uncle was head at the bigger school down the village. Do you remember either of them? Pilgrim I'll ask my sister when I see her as she now lives in Nottingham (completes thread circle:-))

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

My granny lived near Red Row too - actually in Lesbury. Beautiful part of the country - I have a dream about retiring to Warkworth.

Welcome Dolly, but the way. I'm from near Ellington (just north of Ashington) and also left when relatively young (13)

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Jay, "dumping cookies" eh? doesn't sound very appetising, I would stick to the BAR-B-Q if I were you.

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Very little representation from the Heaton lads here. Come on lads give us a jig. Who'll start a heaton reunion thread-always good fer a laf them like

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

I would normally oblige you there Syme....but I'm off on holiday the morra so there's no point.........unless anyone knows of any Internet Cafes in the Vilamour area of the Algarve.

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Mind you....I can also drop in on the Ashington threads as well.....anyone from around Ninth Row.....got family that live there.

I could also start a Bedlington thread as I've got family there as well or even a Netherton thread......all the family on my dads side were from that village (it doesn't even exist now....its just a big field) so I spent a fair amount of my formative years in and around those pit villages.

-- Anonymous, August 02, 2000

Cliff,

My Da was a Bobby, before he went doon Pit. When was the school days?

Ask (if Possible) if they remember the Weightmans, there was 8 kids!

My cousins are still there, Weightmans and Dodds.

gus

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2000

gus, you wrote, "My Da was a Bobby, before he went doon Pit", should that not have read, "before he was sent doon (under)"?

;-7)

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2000

Gus, Vera retired 20 years ago. One of my good friends is a Chris Weightman from up there who went to school with my cousin Angus. My other cousin Colin was killed playing rugby for Alnwick seconds circa 1962 aged 17.

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2000

Bud, It should have been, Ma Da was a Polis - then left and went doon pit then went doon unda.

Cliff, I am sure Chris will be related, although through which part of the family I am not sure. Maybee he can tell us? When I speak to my sisters and brothers I will ask them. We all went to the school next to the Welfare. My Da used to coach the FC. We lived on Lee Ave. My Uncle Alf and Aunty Jean lived in Kiln Lonnen. My cousin Cecil lives next door to our old house in Lee Ave and his sister Anne Dodds lives around the corner.

-- Anonymous, August 03, 2000

Gus, Chris is Dr. Chris (PhD in plant Biology) He studied in Edinburgh and France somewhere. He now teaches at the deaf school here in Newcastle. Around the 50yr old mark. Still plays a mean game of badminton.
