The Hallelujah Health Tip Issue #140 July 27, 2000

___________________________________________________________

RECENT LETTERS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN HELPED

Each week we receive hundreds of new testimonies from people who have experienced dramatic improvements in their health since adopting the Hallelujah Diet. This week was no exception:

In this first letter, David Marshall shares an incredible testimony regarding his daughter's recovery from epilepsy: "In mid-1999 I attended a workshop on the Hallelujah Diet. I attended due to the fact that we had a 7-year-old daughter with epilepsy (5-10 seizures daily since age 4), ongoing vaginal irritation since birth, blackness around the eyes, chronic sinus disease, itchy skin and frequent rashes, loss of bladder control at night, etc., etc. We were at the end of the line with the medical profession. Chloe had had endless drugs since she was born and the fact that her epilepsy could not be controlled on any anti-convulsant was a mystery to the doctors, although they continued to experiment. As parents, words cannot explain our emotional state at that time. To cut a very long story short, we now enjoy a healthy child and a healthy lifestyle on the Hallelujah Diet! The best being that our daughter is now free of seizures and drugs. As a family, Chloe's case has enlightened us to look at our own health issues and the direct relationship between what we eat and our health, hence we all enjoy Chloe's new-found energy and love for life." "

Arthur Blood writes: "Since going on the Hallelujah Diet on May 1, 2000, I have lost thirty pounds. Before going on the Hallelujah Diet I was having difficulty regulating my blood pressure and blood sugar levels. I had been taking blood pressure medication for the past thirteen years and was diagnosed as diabetic about four years ago. Also, I have had gout and kidney stones, associated with uric acid build-up, and was taking medication for this as well. After only three weeks on the Hallelujah Diet I was able to stop taking diabetic and uric acid medication and my blood pressure medication was cut in half. The doctor says that after I lose another ten pounds I probably won't have to take any medication."

Since I began my journey into vegetarianism almost 25 years ago, I have learned that the term "VEGETARIAN" can have many different meanings. So let's begin by giving the primary definition of "vegetarian" as found in Webster's Dictionary:

* "A person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals."

In today's society Webster's definition fits a large number of vegetarian diets. Let's look briefly at some of the vegetarian diets of today that would fit this dictionary definition:

* A LACTO VEGETARIAN is someone who includes milk and milk products in their diet, but not eggs or foods that have eggs in them.

* A LACTO-OVO VEGETARIAN is someone whose diet includes milk (lacto) and eggs (ovo).

* A VEGAN is someone who avoids milk, eggs, and all dairy products and by-products, as well as all foods that contain these ingredients.

* A FRUITARIAN is someone who eats only fruit and nuts.

* A MACROBIOTIC may or may not be a vegan. While the macrobiotic avoids meat and dairy products, fish and other seafood are a part of many macrobiotic diets.

Now let's compare all of the above diets with the original "VEGETARIAN" diet, handed down by God to mankind at creation:

* "AND GOD SAID, BEHOLD, I HAVE GIVEN YOU EVERY HERB BEARING SEED, WHICH IS UPON THE FACE OF ALL THE EARTH, AND EVERY TREE, IN THE WHICH IS THE FRUIT OF A TREE YIELDING SEED; TO YOU IT SHALL BE FOR MEAT." (Genesis 1:29)

If we were to put God's original diet into the common English language usage of today, it would read: "RAW VEGETABLES AND FRUITS ARE TO BE YOUR FOOD."

As we look at today's vegetarian diets, we find that almost ALL have departed from the original "VEGETARIAN" diet given by God to mankind at creation, in that most vegetarians of today, even vegans, COOK THEIR FOOD! God's original diet to mankind was a 100% RAW vegan diet--not a COOKED vegan diet!

When we look to nature, we find that every animal creation of God, living in the wild, even to this day, consumes its food RAW, whether that animal be vegetarian or carnivorous. This was God's plan for the nourishment of not only the animals in the wild, but for all His physical creations, including humans. There is a reason for this.

Every physical body God created, whether non-human or human, is comprised of 100% LIVING cells that were designed by God to be nourished with 100% LIVING food. All cooked food is DEAD food. The enzymes (life force), have been destroyed and the protein molecule altered by the heat of cooking. My contact with vegetarians over the past 25 years has revealed that on average, vegetarians of today experience as many physical problems as non-vegetarians! Why? Because they COOK most of their food!

Note that animals in the wild rarely get sick, but when we domesticate them and feed them COOKED (canned, packaged, and boxed) foods, they often develop similar physical problems as man: cancers, tumors, arthritis, diabetes, cataracts, and even obesity, to name just a few.

I was raised on the Standard American COOKED FOOD Diet (SAD). Cooked meat was included in at least one meal every day, even during Depression days, since my mother, being a registered nurse, had been taught that meat was an absolute necessity for good health. Pasteurized (cooked) cow milk was consumed at every meal, and even between meals. Also, mother served cooked vegetables, cooked potatoes or cooked pasta or cooked rice or cooked beans, and cooked biscuits, along with a cooked sugar dessert at evening meals. Breakfast consisted of cooked cereal with toast most mornings, and (sometimes) cooked eggs, cooked pancakes or waffles, with cooked bacon or sausage and syrup, while cooked peanut butter and cooked jelly between two slices of cooked (baked) bread were my primary lunch through most of my childhood.

How did I do on this SAD, almost 100% cooked food diet? At age 3 I had my tonsils removed, and by age 12 had over thirty cavities in my teeth. At age 28 I had to start wearing eyeglasses, while suffering with all the so-called "normal" physical problems such as sinus and allergy problems, upset stomach, headaches, colds, the flu, high blood pressure, hemorrhoids, etc., until being told I had colon cancer at age 42.

How did mom and dad do on this same SAD cooked food diet? Dad had his first heart attack at age 42, then numerous additional heart attacks and strokes until ultimately dying of a massive heart attack. Mom had severe sinus problems throughout most of her life and was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 49.

When I was 42 years of age, facing a potentially life- threatening physical problem, I did something as simple as changing what I ate, from the SAD COOKED food diet of this world to God's LIVING (raw) vegan diet as found in Genesis 1:29. What was the result of this simple diet change? All my physical problems, including my cancer, simply went away, and I have not experienced as much as a cold since making this diet change almost 25 years ago.

Because of my personal experiences on a 100% raw vegan diet, I started studying the subject of biblical nutrition in 1976. Then in 1992 I established Hallelujah Acres and started proclaiming the Hallelujah Diet (a 100% vegan, mostly raw diet). Since 1992 I have not only continued to study everything I could get my hands on regarding nutrition, but also have listened to the feedback of tens of thousands of others who applied the Hallelujah Diet in their lives.

Based on what I have learned, personally experienced, and received in feedback, let me share some of the things I know to be true regarding vegetarianism:

1. God's original plan for the nourishment of man was a 100% RAW vegan diet. (Genesis 1:29)

2. A study of the anatomy of humans (both male and female) reveals that God created us with a physical body that can only function properly on a basically RAW vegan diet.

3. Cooking vegetables and fruits destroys 100% of the enzymes (life force), destroys a very high percentage of the vitamins, and alters the molecular structure of the protein and minerals.

4. Cooked foods and animal products are the CAUSE of almost 100% of all physical problems being experienced in America and the other industrialized nations of today.

I am out of room for this week, so will continue this article in next week's Health Tip #141 as we take a hard look at the Hallelujah Diet. We will talk about the strengths and possible weaknesses of the Hallelujah Diet, and why it gives the spectacular results it does in the bodies of almost everyone who strictly follows it. ___________________________________________________________ I look forward to these opportunities to come into your home or business each week through the vehicle of this electronic Health Tip. www.mercola.com/2000/jul/..._death.htm Doctors Are The Third Leading Cause of Death in the US, Killing 250,000 People Every Year

This week's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association

The author is Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and she desribes how the US health care system may contribute to poor health.

ALL THESE ARE DEATHS PER YEAR:

12,000 -----unnecessary surgery 8 7,000 -----medication errors in hospitals 9 20,000 ----other errors in hospitals 10 80,000 ----infections in hospitals 10 106,000 ---non-error, negative effects of drugs 2

These total to 250,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic causes!!

What does the word iatrogenic mean? This term is defined as induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of a complication of treatment.

Dr. Starfield offers several warnings in interpreting these numbers:

First, most of the data are derived from studies in hospitalized patients. Second, these estimates are for deaths only and do not include negative effects that are associated with disability or discomfort. Third, the estimates of death due to error are lower than those in the IOM report.1

If the higher estimates are used, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range from 230,000 to 284,000. In any case, 225,000 deaths per year constitutes the third leading cause of death in the United States, after deaths from heart disease and cancer. Even if these figures are overestimated, there is a wide margin between these numbers of deaths and the next leading cause of death (cerebrovascular disease).

Another analysis 11 concluded that between 4% and 18% of consecutive patients experience negative effects in outpatient settings, with:

116 million extra physician visits 77 million extra prescriptions 17 million emergency department visits 8 million hospitalizations 3 million long-term admissions 199,000 additional deaths $77 billion in extra costs

The high cost of the health care system is considered to be a deficit, but seems to be tolerated under the assumption that better health results from more expensive care.

However, evidence from a few studies indicates that as many as 20% to 30% of patients receive inappropriate care.

An estimated 44,000 to 98,000 among them die each year as a result of medical errors.2

This might be tolerated if it resulted in better health, but does it? Of 13 countries in a recent comparison,3,4 the United States ranks an average of 12th (second from the bottom) for 16 available health indicators. More specifically, the ranking of the US on several indicators was:

13th (last) for low-birth-weight percentages 13th for neonatal mortality and infant mortality overall 14 11th for postneonatal mortality 13th for years of potential life lost (excluding external causes) 11th for life expectancy at 1 year for females, 12th for males 10th for life expectancy at 15 years for females, 12th for males 10th for life expectancy at 40 years for females, 9th for males 7th for life expectancy at 65 years for females, 7th for males 3rd for life expectancy at 80 years for females, 3rd for males 10th for age-adjusted mortality

The poor performance of the US was recently confirmed by a World Health Organization study, which used different data and ranked the United States as 15th among 25 industrialized countries.

There is a perception that the American public "behaves badly" by smoking, drinking, and perpetrating violence." However the data does not support this assertion.

The proportion of females who smoke ranges from 14% in Japan to 41% in Denmark; in the United States, it is 24% (fifth best). For males, the range is from 26% in Sweden to 61% in Japan; it is 28% in the United States (third best).

The US ranks fifth best for alcoholic beverage consumption.

The US has relatively low consumption of animal fats (fifth lowest in men aged 55-64 years in 20 industrialized countries) and the third lowest mean cholesterol concentrations among men aged 50 to 70 years among 13 industrialized countries.

These estimates of death due to error are lower than those in a recent Institutes of Medicine report, and if the higher estimates are used, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range from 230,000 to 284,000.

Even at the lower estimate of 225,000 deaths per year, this constitutes the third leading cause of death in the US, following heart disease and cancer.

Lack of technology is certainly not a contributing factor to the US's low ranking.

Among 29 countries, the United States is second only to Japan in the availability of magnetic resonance imaging units and computed tomography scanners per million population. 17 Japan, however, ranks highest on health, whereas the US ranks among the lowest. It is possible that the high use of technology in Japan is limited to diagnostic technology not matched by high rates of treatment, whereas in the US, high use of diagnostic technology may be linked to more treatment. Supporting this possibility are data showing that the number of employees per bed (full-time equivalents) in the United States is highest among the countries ranked, whereas they are very low in Japan, far lower than can be accounted for by the common practice of having family members rather than hospital staff provide the amenities of hospital care.

COMMENT: Folks, this is what they call a "Landmark Article". Only several ones like this are published every year. One of the major reasons it is so huge as that it is published in JAMA which is the largest and one of the most respected medical journals in the entire world. I did find it most curious that the best wire service in the world, Reuter's, did not pick up this article. I have no idea why they let it slip by.

I would encourage you to bookmark this article and review it several times so you can use the statistics to counter the arguments of your friends and relatives who are so enthralled with the traditional medical paradigm. These statistics prove very clearly that the system is just not working. It is broken and is in desperate need of repair.

I was previously fond of saying that drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in this country. However, this article makes it quite clear that the more powerful number is that doctors are the third leading cause of death in this country killing nearly a quarter million people a year. The only more common causes are cancer and heart disease. This statistic is likely to be seriously underestimated as much of the coding only describes the cause of organ failure and does not address iatrogenic causes at all.

Japan seems to have benefited from recognizing that technology is wonderful, but just because you diagnose something with it, one should not be committed to undergoing treatment in the traditional paradigm. Their health statistics reflect this aspect of their philosophy as much of their treatment is not treatment at all, but loving care rendered in the home.

Care, not treatment, is the answer. Drugs, surgery and hospitals are rarely the answer to chronic health problems. Facilitating the God-given healing capacity that all of us have is the key. Improving the diet, exercise, and lifestyle are basic. Effective interventions for the underlying emotional and spiritual wounding behind most chronic illness are also important clues to maximizing health and reducing disease.

Copious amount of almond joy and mounds bars, washed down with a couple of cans of dew, is the best known cure for all kinds of cancer.

I'm glad that you found your key, FS.

IMHO, any anti-cancer diet should include peanut butter!

P.S. I made it thorough today WITHOUT any Dew! (so far...)

>> * A LACTO-OVO VEGETARIAN is someone whose diet includes milk (lacto) and eggs (ovo). <<

You forgot me. I am a LACTO-OVO-CARNO QUATTROGENARIAN.

Once I got through the first several sentences, I realized that was a great article. (the words "hallelujah diet" are just so corny)

I only wish I could adhere to such a diet. Perhaps someday I'll actually stop making excuses and do it.

by the way, kb8, there is such a thing as 'raw' peanut butter.

-- cin (cin@cinn.cin), July 31, 2000.

by the way, kb8, there is such a thing as 'raw' peanut butter.

I hope so! I'm going to tout it was part of the "healthful" diet that I am now on (cough, cough, snicker, snicker).

Hey, I'm trying to give up Dew, but how can I debug source code without my caffeine? I can't even put up one of these posts without at least one typo or spelling error these days.
