About 6,900 Asheboro residents and businesses lost power for up to 25 minutes Friday afternoon because of equipment failure at an east Asheboro substation.

Most of the houses without power were in east and north Asheboro, Carolina Power and Light spokeswoman Linda McCrudden said.

The problem was quickly rectified, and everyone had power again within a half hour.
