KoFE's Link

This may be incorrect but I have heard that algor owns 500,000 shares of Occidental Pete. Can anyone confirm or refute? If true, then making out Cheney/Bush to be oil lackeys is a tad deceitful.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), July 30, 2000.

Are you choosing sides, Lars? If I didn't know about Gore already, I would say I'd like to hear it. Besides, Gore is going to lose(I mean has not been selected) anyway.

Thanks NOTCPR.....

KoFE--

Damn betcha, I tend to vote Republican. Certainly will this year altho I'm not super-enthused by W. I don't remember where I heard about the Gore/Occidental connection. TV, radio, newspaper, don't know. That's why I don't claim it's true. But if anyone knows one way or the other........

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), July 30, 2000.

Lars, there is lots of dirt on Gore. I haven't saved any articles, but if I come across more, I'll post them too.

-- KoFE (your@town.USA), July 30, 2000.

Owning shares in an oil company as an investment is not the same as owning the industry like Bush does. How can it be "deceitful" to call Bush an oil lackey? Actually, he is much more than a lackey, he's a tycoon, he is in bed with the oil industry. He wants more of their money and they want more of his political favors, which he will give in exorbitant amounts if he becomes the head cheese.

-- Hawk (flyin@hi.again), July 30, 2000.

Easy there Hawk, you are starting to wander into the land of I know what I know. Daddy Bush hardly owns the oil industry and to state such a thing immediately destroys the possible valid parts of your argument. Bush and Cheney are but stage props for the real power brokerspeople whose names you would not recognize nor are you likely to hear. I do however share some of your frustration over our choices this election. But Al Gore would be a sorrowful pick under any circumstances.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 30, 2000.

Hawk--

The deceit is to imply that Bush is dirty if in fact Gore is also a big fat player in the oil economy.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), July 30, 2000.

Lars, I totally agree with Ra. Where is the deceit in my first post?

-- KoFE (your@town.USA), July 30, 2000.

"if in fact Gore is also a big fat player in the oil economy."

IS that "in fact"? I seriously doubt it.

Bush WORKED in the industry and wallowed in the mud with those pigs, still does. BIG difference.

I'm going to post here a link that I presented on Poole's site that didn't get much play there. It starts out very humorous, bashing candidates on both sides [It's not like there isn't sufficient ammunition.] Leno and Letterman could both fire their joke writers and simply repeat what candidates have said. Actually, they already are....repeating, I mean. At some point in this essay, however, the humor makes way for sadness as we realize the offerings this term. The summation [in the form of "Why not vote for..."] left me almost numb.

Charles Manson for President?

I ran across one session of the Republican platform committee on an obscure cable station yesterday, Lars. It pertained to a an amendment regarding what should be taught in sex-education classes in the public schools. Folks who were against the amendment wanted only abstinence taught. Folks who were FOR the amendment included doctors, etc., who see teens come into their offices every day who never learned ANYTHING about sex at home and ended up pregnant. The end vote was to deny the amendment. The vote was 50 to 39.

There was also recent talk of arresting homosexual individuals for violation of the sodomy laws in their respective states. There's a congresscritter who openly states he's gay that will speak at the GOP convention. Cheney's daughter states she's gay. How can a platform condemn homosexuality and have such close ties to homosexuality? We have a choice between the "We're crazy and we know it" platform of the Democrats and the "We're crazy, but ignore it" platform of the GOP. I know...we still have those other guys. The choices still boil down to how much pain we are willing to endure and how we want that pain to unfold. "Do you want a sharp stick in the eye, or a knife in the gut?"

Ra,

I was speaking figuratively, not financially. Politically, he does to a large degree "own" the industry, and if he becomes prez he will be their number one superstar and favorite charity.

-- Hawk (flyin@hi.again), July 30, 2000.

But Hawk, as a realist you must understand the dynamics of Presidential power. Ive always been more comfortable when the puppeteers can be identified, as opposed to not knowing who is pulling the strings. I offer Slick Willy as case in point. Who is yanking his chain? The PRC, the Riadys, the NAACP, or is it the DCAOA? I hate mysteries of this sort.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 30, 2000.

Hawk:

Smirk's making money off the oil industry, but he's OWNED by the NRA. He's doing everything he can to disassociate himself from the platform that the GOP platform committee is still busy establishing. He's hugged more black folks in the past month than he's ever SEEN in his life. Unlike his dad, we'll be able to read his lips every time we see him read a speech. He could be reading to himself, and we'd STILL see his lips moving.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), July 30, 2000.

Hoo Yah Anita, Wayne LaPierre will sure be glad to hear that news.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 30, 2000.

I submit, Ra. Who is Wayne LaPierre? [I'd roll over on my back to indicate the submissive submission, but there's already a poster here who states that's my NORMAL position.]

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), July 31, 2000.

That might make more sense if you substituted "submissive position" for "submissive submission." I'm too tired to type correctly, but too keyed to call it a day.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), July 31, 2000.

Anita said it right, you want a stick in the eye; or a knife in the gut?

HAWK KNOWS WHAT HE KNOWS AND IF YOU DON"T KNOW WHAT HAWK KNOWS YOU ARE AN IDIOT. IT ALLWAYS AMAZES ME WEHN THE SMALL MINDS ATTACK HAWK.

-- HAWK ROCKS (rockin@hi.again), July 31, 2000.

Am I hallucinating or did that web site anita linked to automatically install a cursor program on my computer. As I was reading her link I saw that my cursor had changed to "duke" from the comic strip Doonesbury. THen I looked down on my task bar and saw am icon I did not recognize. I did not hit download on anything. Anyone with a similar experience?

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), July 31, 2000.

No need to assume the position Anita. Wayne LaPierre is the Executive Director of the NRA and the guy who really runs the show, not El Cid.
