Sultan, I suggest, that you consider a Sony S70. The lens (a Carl Zeiss Sonnar) is extremely sharp and, combined with the 3.34 mp CCD, provides excellent results. In wide angle, close focus and spot metering mode, the automatic flash provides even illumination down to about half palm- size areas, but closer than that vigneting in the left lower corner becomes a problem (the flash is to the right and above the lens). Skin tones are perfect and do not require later adjustment in Photoshop. Dr. T. Muhlstein, FRCP (ped)

Sultan:
The Nikon 990 will deliver better, aharper pictures. However - the level of sharpness I think you will need in this kind of macro photography is actually modest - so I think the playing field between these two cameras, for delivery of adequate results, is even.
So you should consider other factors. I would suggest giving consideration to the Sony FD95. The convenience, expense and portability of the floppies could have a siginificant advantage in your requirements. Taking the pictures on a floppy disk that you can then drop into the patients medical file is both convenient and lends to greater integrity in record keeping. By dedicating a 12 Cent floppy (or two) to each patient you can eliminate the necessary transfer and restorage time and cost. Writing the patients name on the floppy will completely eliminate confusion (and needless to say - the mental trauma of a mistake).

I apologize for rejoining the discussion, however storing files on floppies in individual patient files has two major problems: (1) searches for pix by diagnosis for reference and presentations is impossible (I store my original pix on CDs catalogued in "Axcess") (2) individual floppy disk files are incompatible with electronic medical records

Don't appologize for rejoining a discussion for heaven's sake - it's important!
The floppies are clearly the most convenient - but if you are uploading and indexing the images with meta data then I agree - it's pretty much a wash.
