I was supposed to be going to some leaving drinks and then catching the 7.30 train to Newcastle. I have just got out of a meeting now. This drives me to tears. The other thing is, I need to speak to Softie urgently and I'n frightened to call in case he and Nic are asleep. There's this train that goes at about midnight and gets into Newcastle at about 7.30 (change at Leeds) which I'm going to try to get. This is beyond miserable. This is the last time I gloat about what a weekend I'm going to have. Still, I'll be in Newcastle tomorrow.

I doubt you are still there Dougal, but the best plan we have come up with is for you to meet Nicola outside the Leazes wing of the RVI at 9.30am Saturday if possible. If not, give us a ring before 9.00am in the morning to let her know. She wants to go round the flats with you (obviously!) but will give you a detailed report if you can't make it.

Don't beat yourself up over it, these things are sent to try us.
