Away shirts.

As I'm B*gg*ring off down under for a year, I thought I might get a new away shirt, the rather natty black ones. But I'm having second thoughts, what does you folks reckon....to buy or not to buy, and also should I buy a diff shirt....

Go for it! :-) They've grown on me quite a bit after seeing so many folks wearing them in DC and Columbus. Not sure I like them for the team to play in. I was having a hard time seeing them across the pitch at twilight, so can only imagine it's hard for them to see each other at times.

Home shirts are more important if your travelling, it's amazing where the B & W stripes are noticed. I was riding a push-bike through a little Viatnamise village in 1994 with my shirt on and was amazed at the amount of kids running after me shouting Kevin Keegan & Newcastle. Mind you, when I started chatting to them something got lost in translation & they assumed I was a player rather than a mere fan, I didn't wan't to correct them & had to decline thereoffer of a kickabout for fear of being found out.

Anything with a Toon logo is acceptable garb wherever you go. I must say, the new away shirt os really growing on me (I must take it off now it has taken root) - but seriously, it looks good and smart to boot.

It is funny how people who don't know that much about the team think you're somehow with them when you're wearing a shirt. A guy came up to me at the Columbus postmatch party asking about the team because I was wearing a shirt with Ferguson 20 on the back. He thought I knew them. Also had a similar incident when I was doing laundry at my DC area hotel. A woman saw me pull the shirts out of the washer and asked if I were with the team. Ha...if I was I wouldn't be doing my own kit laundry! ;-))

I'm in a minority. I HATE them. I think they look really really tacky and cheap and nasty - horrid horrid shirts that they are! How dare they stick our club crest on that shite? How dare they make our players wear them? And the cheeky thing is they expect fans to buy them. Not only that but the away shirts are on one season cycles, so they won't be around long enough to grow on anyone, or come to mean anything. And another thing - against who the fuck do Newcastle United play in their away strips? On the off chance that we meet Notts County or Grimbsy away from home this season would we be allowed to play in all black?

That's my opinion anyhow. ;-)

Best away shirt for a while - I might even splash out on one. Go for it TM, you can take yer old b/w striped one as well!

Not having seen one close up, I'll resorve judgement. But from what I've seen I like a lot. Mind, anything NUFC and I'm a sucker for it. Thought the recent away tops have been pretty canny all round as it goes...apart from the organge stripe one, which looks ok for general wear but naff on the players.

Have to say the shiny blue and the recent white top have been ace. Made up for that awful round necked home shirt in a small fashion.

If you need me I'll over there with Geoff Banks and Selina Scott

To be honest, I saw a couple of the away sharts in the pub the neet (no doubt paid for with the profits of illegal drug trafficking) in Blyth. I think they are more of a fashion item than a football shirt, but are probably more socially acceptable than a zebra suit in many establishments.

If only they sold them without the ntl logo.

Fashion item - yep they're brill

Footie kit - remember Leeds away in the dark Blue kit - we couldn't see the players so what chance had they. This'll be the same.

Get an "old fashioned" black and white shirt. That's what I'm doing this season. They're never out of date because they're always out of date. Most important of all is - they don't have adverts on the front. No poxy beer mat, no ntl, nowt except black and white stripes and the badge. That's what football shirts are supposed to look like. Ask Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and possibly one or two other Spanish teams who refuse to have adverts on their shirts. Thank you.

I'm still looking for a '78 Bukta shirt (not the yeelow & green one)

TM Hot sunny weather and and black shirt don't go well together. Go for the old white away stip. Suits the climate better.

Hiro - they'll mainly be using them in England - not being in Europe next season. Have no fears on that score...

Bought one for the Washington trip and didnt take it off all weekend , well almost ! Love it , got lots of nice comments , its different ( for a bit anyway ) , and is comfortable ...nice crest on the back of the collar . Pricey but worth it if youve got a handful af black and white shirts in the draw already . Got to be better than the NTL on the new home strip at any rate .. get one man , but youll be less recognisable : - ))

Bought the away top at the weekend. Can't stand the NTL lettering on the new home shirt. I think it was SMB who referred to Barca et al refusing sponsorship. Well, bearing in mind that the major Spanish clubs get their debts written off my Royal Decree every so often, they can afford to be snotty about these things... Actually, Real are sponsored and are still in about #160 mills of debt. That was before they bought Figo.

Aye cheers folks, hiro mentioned the white, and I will be in Sydney...and yes I already have a 50's shirt for those that say B&W (worn in aswell after the cardboard of the first season). And Gibbo, calm dowm man, it's meant to be slightly tacky, it's an away shirt.

We'll see I reckon.

TM, the whole of Customs at Perth Airport are under instruction to seize all NUFC shirts, including those being worn.

I would not worry too much because they have been told to stop when they get an XL one!!!!
