Georgia: Some southside homes had power outage

Some 725 southside electric customers lost
power early Thursday morning.

A bad lighting arrester on a White Bluff
feeder line caused the blackout, said
John Kraft, spokesman for Savannah Electric.

Power was lost from 12:47-2:21 a.m. for
most homes. A few homes were in the dark
until 3:53 a.m.

The lighting arresters are used to protect
transformers from lighting strikes. If
they are subjected to too many surges,
they sometimes fail. Storms earlier in
the week probably weakened the arrester.
