Favorite Homemade Ice Cream Recipe?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just picked up an ice cream maker at a yard sale. I'm looking for a basic recipe with as few ingredients as possible. Do you have a favorite? Now if only I had a nice Jersey cow for fresh cream.....Thanks Everyone!

2 cups cream 1 cups milk 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract mix and freeze

However, you will find that mixtures that you precook and thicken with egg will hold its shape better longer and not run as soon as you scoop it!

2 cups cream 2 cups milk 1 2" piece vanilla bean split lengthwise 2 egg yolk 1/2 cup sugar 2 T vanilla extract Combine milk and cream in saucepan over medium heat Add vanilla bean and heat till mixture almost boils 5-8 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Beat egg yols sugar and extract 1-2 minutes. Add 4 T hot creeam mixture and stir till combined. slowly add egg mixture to cream/milk stirring continuously. Cook 3-4 minutes, till mixture thickens slightly. Cool completely. when cool, scrape seeds from vanilla bean and add to mixture Discard bean shell Freeze per machine instructions
