Jari Litmanen is being released by Barca. This player is one talented man. For next to nowt we could have a world class player with something to prove.

Maric was a world class player with something to prove, was he not ?
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2000
ah yes but Litmanen holds the champions league scoring record. Proven player who now needs to prove again...

So who'd be under pressure if we took him on ?

Jari is a fabulous creative player. highly underrated, as important a part of the Ajax '95 side as Davids, De Boers, Kluivert, Overmars, Kanu etc. he's also a model pro and very likable. bowever he's up there with Howey and Dunc when it comes to injuries and is as often to be found in the physio's room as the training pitch. Ball skills to compare with Beardsley but i'm not sure i'd take him.

The new coach of Barcelona has told the following players they can leave the Club:Vitor Baia, Fridiric Dehu, Winston Bogarde, Samuel Okunowo and Jari Litmanen.
NH were interested in Dehu and Chelsea were after Bogarde. I wouldn't be surprised if we are linked with Vitor Baia yet again, but after his Euro 2000 exploits I'm not sure he'd improve our team.

I'd rather have LItmanen playing 50% of games than Ferguson. I'm sorry but in terms of class there is no contest really, is there?

Different types of player. I'll take Dunc.

Someone say another 'crock' is available - well, come right on in!

Litmanen, quality player, injured too often, how about Guardiola?
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2000
Despite being Finnish I wouldn't fancy having Litmanen playing for Toon. He is never fit enough. Every summer he has problems with his asthma and once a winter he strains his groin. And though he have played just wonderful games in Champions League I haven't seen him doing anything too impressive in Finnish national team.Anyone coming to Helsinki October 11 for the Finland-England game?

Jussi where the hell have you been , havent seen/ heard of ya since Victoria platform , how are ya bonnie lad ?
-- Anonymous, July 28, 2000
Victoria platform? London? Can there be somekind of mix-up here? Some other Jussi perhaps? Well sorry to say but I can't recall (or understand) this one. Though I have had the tendency of being pretty toxicated during my visits in UK. Still, cheers ;-)

Tee hee. In a mischevious told-you-so mood, I was going to revive my Litmanen thread from just before he signed for Liverpool. Then I found this one from months earlier. Swifty - 'spec due!

Shame really, Litmanen would have been the perfect foil for Dyer. A truly world class player ignored, until now. Who would rather have Dunc?
