Palm Beach Post Wire Reports

Wednesday, July 26, 2000

FORT LAUDERDALE -- An AirTran flight made an emergency landing Tuesday morning after reporting hydraulic problems.

AirTran Flight 257 landed safely and on time at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday. The DC-9 plane from Atlanta reported losing hydraulic pressure on its right side about 50 miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where it was headed.

The airport's control tower told the pilot he had to make an emergency landing. The plane was met by fire rescue personnel and mechanics. They inspected it and gave it clearance to proceed to the gate, said Tad Hutcheson, spokesman for the Orlando-based AirTran, formerly known as ValuJet Airlines.
