Canon Powershot S10-- compatible with windows2000?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi,

I recently installed windows2000 on my main computer-- I don't play games and it works great and is much more stable.

However, I cannot get the USB driver included with the Canon Powershot S10 to work. It says that NT won't support it (but I'm pretty sure 2000 does) so I tried the serial driver--still no avail. I don't plan on reinstalling 98, or buying a 50$ card reader; I'm sure the driver exists somewhere/or is coming soon?

Anyone have this problem and solve it?

Thanks

It says the serial and USB drivers there are for Windows all the way through 98, 2000 & NT... They're dated May 26?

The downloads are pretty "hugenormous", between 2 & 3 MB...

If they're the same drivers, it sounds like it's time to (shudder)call or email the tech support weinies at Canon. I don't suppose it could be something wacky with your 2000 installation? What'd you have on the machine before? Was it an update or did you reformat the drive before installing the new operating system? I know some people have reported problems that seemed to have come from updating operating systems rather than starting from scratch -mostly popped up with USB. As I recall, they were usually Win 98 upgrades. Something to consider, perhaps. I haven't noticed anything specific about 2000 installs, yet...

If the drivers are new to you, and work, please post back and let others know they work.

Good Luck!

Hey! Thanks for the drivers, they worked beautifully!

My pleasure! Sometimes you get lucky!

It seems like a lot of retail units from various manufacturers sit on shelves long enough that the packaged drivers are obsolete! They really should make more of a point of telling users to check the website first before they install the boxed drivers! Say in LARGE BOLD RED LETTERS on a sheet with a Toxic: Radioactive symbol to get their attention... ;-)

Have fun with the new cam, and don't misplace that tiny little thing!
