Papers is papers?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Currently I am using an Epson 850N and plan to get an upgraded photo printer in the future but,...that's another query. I have found though that since I seem to be doing a great deal of B&W photos that when I print my proofs on Kodak Inkjet Photo Letter Paper (Matte finish) I notice a great deal of warming to the tone of the photo.( I use the Kodak Inkjet Photo Paper (Glossy finish) for the final prints.) My question is, I have noticed that the photo paper has a definite 'bluish/cyan' shift to it and the photo letter paper is displays a sienna tone. It is slight but it is noticeable when the same image is compared. The question is, does anyone know of a glossy photo paper that would have these same characteristics as the Photo Letter Paper? I have grown to really like the warmth of it, it reminds me of the days when real photo paper had a silver content.

TIA

Steven, Go to the Adobe site navigate through support to the user-to-user forum and ask this question there. You will have to register, but it is well worth the effort. There are many people there who are very experienced with many different types of paper and they will be able to help you tremendously. I also have an Epson, and recently I have been experimenting with watercolor and charcoal paper and I like the results a lot, but it does require that changes be made to the printer driver.

Steven, I have been checking the Adobe site and see that you have posted on the Mac side and you don't have any responses. This surprises me, but many of those who are extremely knowledgeable are in Europe and they download by newsreaders, and up-post the same way, so it may take some time. I have learned a tremendous amount on the Adobe site, but I work across platforms so I regularly read the posts on both the Mac side as well as the PC side. Interestingly there is quite a bit of difference in the attitudes (a sweeping generalisation here) between the Mac and the Win side. I find that the responders on the Win side are much more laid back and, in many ways, much more helpful and knowledgeable. I would urge you to post your question on the Win side also, but address the heading differently. Ask your paper question in a different way and especially look for responses from Len Hewitt and Carol Steele, both from the UK. They are great and knowledgeable resources. I think that you will find that Carol is especially knowledgeable about papers. There is also a search function on the Adobe site which you may find useful! Fred

Stay in touch if I may be of further help.

Have you tried Epson Photo paper (#S041141)? I've noticed that its color is warmer than HP Glossy Photo paper, but I don't know how it compares to Kaodak papers.

I'd like to hear more opinions of Photo papers. Did anyone do a comparative review?
