Off to a bad start already.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : 2000 Olympics Forum : One Thread

Only two threads, and already a flame-war!

Listen users, lusenet forums (the popular ones) have a reputation for being hostile...I will not allow that behavior here!

Everyone needs to respect others and GET ALONG.

END of story.

Typical. Censor those who you do not agree with. Have fun with your new forum...

Hey I know this jerk! His name is y2kpro and he is a professional forum killer.

Watch out Admin, if you delete his hate speech you will touch off a spam bomb of immense magnitude.....

I might have posted here. I will not now. Censorship is not something I want to be involved with-I do not need an overly zealous administrator who is going to act as a thought policeman in deciding what constitutes "hostile". What a shame-it might have been good.

By the way, where is the flame war? You've deleted it already? LOL.

Yes I have deleted it. The "anti-american" posted an article accusing all Americans of being druggies titled "will americans support their cheating athletes?"

The article itself was not so bad, but then another poster named "proud american" began the mud-slinging....the "anti-american" flamed right back.

Here was my predicament: There are no threads here yet. Any newcomers would probably read that and think to themselves "I'm not getting involed with THAT!" As the about section says, I've asked people to behave in a civil manner. Slamming all American Athletes (many of whom work very VERY hard to get where they are) is NOT civil behavior. Name-calling and other rude behavior is also not civil.

No one has been "censored". A rude and boorish thread full of nothing but hearsay and flames was removed.

Maybe, as the above poster stated, this "anti American" is only here to "kill" the forum. I don't know. And I don't want to know.

Maybe they already succeeded.

What would YOU have done in that circumstance? Would you like to "officiate" over a kindergarten name-calling contest? Do you think that will attract posters who are excited about a once in a lifetime event....the 2000 Olympic Games? How can anyone "cheer" for their countrymen(women) if others are allowed to denegrade their efforts?

Perhaps a civil forum is beyond some people.

No sweat, Admin. Don't let a few people ruffle your feathers. I did some time on those y2k forums; they are FULL of unstable people (Phil is even on record as saying that!)

I will try and help you get this forum off the ground...and don't worry about removing anti-american diatribe....whoever posts it is probably jealous!

PS:

I'll try and behave, too.

:-)
