At least 16 people were reported injured, three seriously, in a train crash in Melbourne's east this afternoon.

Two trains apparently collided end-to-end in the crash, which reportedly buckled carriages, at Holmesglen station, on the Glen Waverley line.

One of the windows in the train was forced out by the impact.

The driver of one of the trains jumped clear just before the collision and another driver was injured, Radio 3AW reported.

At one stage a woman was reportedly pinned by the arm for more than 15 minutes, 3AW said.

A student from the nearby Holmesglen TAFE college said students rushed out to see the accident.

'We all rushed here because we were sitting in class ... we sawsmoke and we just sort of ran down here,' the student told 3AW.

An ambulance spokeswoman said injured passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The train apparently crashed into stationary carriages at Holmesglen station.
