Three weeks to recover from having your tonsils out?

Alan Shearer has delayed having a tonsil operation until next summer due to fears the surgery would rule him out of the start of the season. The Newcastle skipper has fought a continuous battle against chronic tonsilitis for several years and was due to undergo the operation to cure the problem last week. But Bobby Robson revealed Shearer has now opted to postpone surgery so as not to miss the start of the campaign: "Originally Alan was supposed to have his tonsils removed the day we left for America. "But he would have needed two or three weeks to recover and that would have meant he would have missed the start of the season. "Now he will have the operation as soon as the season is over and this will give him more time to recover for the following season.'' Robson added: "Alan does get these attacks of chronic tonsilitis - especially in our harsh winters - and as you would expect from him, he fights it all the way. "But where we have been lucky is that in the past the trouble has usually flared up on a Monday or Tuesday and this has given him time to recover for the weekend. "But what would happen if he had a flare-up on a Friday or Saturday morning remains to be seen.''

Too much hockey eh? I think Ciara ought to come clean about some of the "training" methods employed in the good ol' US of A.

Of course our non-sensational friends at the Ronnie resisted the urge to put the leader in as "Shearer in Op Shock"....oh no, hang on, they did actually, the panic-mongering barstewards!

No late night visit last night, dangit. Though we did run into him, Lee and Goma on the elevator heading down to breakfast this morning. They'd only gotten up. David and I were recovering from last night!

Not a good idea to post things like "David and I were recovering from last night! on a public BBS like this. After all, Mrs David might be reading.
