Am I the only one not watching it? I don't watch any of the soaps either (except Dream Team) I only watch Sky 1 and Sky News for the most part.

Is there something wrong with me? :o)

Nothing that a submissive role in a passionate relationship with some golden-haired Adonis wouldn't put right ;-)

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

I hate them all but think that entertaining Scouser and the really sly, devious, bitchy girl (curly hair, coloured, can't remember her name) should have been first out.

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

submissive me? Nah never happen.

Who's this blonde adonis anyway....??? :o)

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

What about that bloody shark Nicholas? A shit of the first order. Leading the clebrations and then going in to console them as though he didn't vote to hoy them out. Crafty enough to ask BB not to show him and the other 2 dancing a jig when they got rid of them as "People might think we were celebrating losing them when we were actually just happy it wasn't us". Yeah, right!!! How did he make his money again...oh yes, dumping on people.

"submissive me? Nah never happen"

See, that's where you've been going wrong. Get pregnant and buy a cookery book...that's all you really need :-)

As for Adonis...you'll have to make do with me until he comes along; he's apparently washing his hair.

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

Okay Softie fine with me !!! :o)

Speaking of hair, I won't have much left to wash after Saturday as I am getting it all cut off :o) I can't wait :o)

Agree - Nicholas is horrid too. As soon as he said, "I'm not a typical public school buy", I wanted to hit him

curious how popular this is back home. Endemol, a Dutch TV company, dreamed it up last year and it was a huge success, especially when two participants struck up a relationship and ended up shagging under a quilt. Initially appalled I became completely hooked for a while, as did half of the Netherlands judging from the viewing figures. Endemol sold the rights to a number of countries and the German version was similarly succesful but ran into problems when a court ruled the complete invasion of privacy involved transgressed the participants human rights.

how explicit is the UK vetsion?

It's not as voyeuristic as the intro suggested it would be. They have done shots of people showering and what have you, but have been careful to mask even intentional nudity probably for that very reason.

It's getting so that they have quite a stylised way of filming so that people gathering in a certain way know that the footage will be shown and folks having a dump seem less worried.

On that level I suppose the anthropologists will study everything but the public will only see carefully edited moments. Saw a documentary on the Dutch one which looked fascinating.

It was thoroughly fascinating, though I do wonder how many of the particpants seriously regret their involvement. Overnight a group of previously anonymous individuals became household names with their private lives being raked over by the gossip press. For instance Karin in her early 40's (with kids and a husband) was constantly in the company of Maurice (handsome younger man, uncertain sexuality) leading to much speculation. Another left in tears having had learnt her kids were being teased at school. One of the most popular guys has had death threats and had a panic alarm installed in his house since the programme. Given how much money Endemol made out of BB, and continue to do, he is somewhat p****d off how little he and the others got. As 'people watching' goes it was compulsive viewing. The male participants seemed to spend half the time strutting around topless ressembling nothing less than a pack of apes.

What began to trouble me was the naked and frequently succesful attempts at emotional manipulation by the producers in order to make the programme more interesting. Thus letters from home, for example, would be tied into the weekly 'live' broadcast thus ensuring that any emotional outbursts (and there were plenty) would happen when viewers were tuned in.

Interesting. They played Darren a video of his daughter's first birthday - cue much blubbering and a consoling hug from the vamp (he should have known better!). They also had a birthday party for the wimpy panty-waister who is being led on by the vamp.

As for the money...I don't think people would behave the same way if there was a million quid on the line. 70grand is very nice but it wouldn't change your life insofar as you couldn't retire on it and it is about the sort of amount you would turn your back on if you couldn't face it anymore. You'd do ANYTHING for a million!

any idea how popular the british version is Softie? the prize was similarly modest over here. the guy who won in the end, Bart (ex-soldier, dumb, macho, blond, pretended to read Shakespeare but kidded no one) was helped in no small way by matching the stereo-typical 'viewer profile' in terms of age and background of the TV station concerned. I assume the British BB is on Channel 4 and god only knows what their typical 'viewer profile' is (only wish we got it over here as Dutch TV is remorselessly crap).

If it follows a similar pattern you can expect the participants to record a dreadful record, celebratory visits, shameless product placementing, and a great deal of hype.

Was I drunk last night or did the Public school cretin say EXACTLY the same thing to both lasses after voting them out - "one door closes and a window opens"???
tw@t of the highest order.
initial thoughts of this BBS stand though - Sada out first.
And she threatened to walk out (cos it was her ball or something) OFF!

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

There's a website where you can watch them on the cameras...so long as you give them your details and let them bombard you with sh*te adverts for the rest of time :-)

Interestingly, they are all seriously falwed individuals except this very quiet Irish farmer...he has stopped himself from saying a few things (when he says anything at all) but the programme narrator has dropped comments about 'how he got his farm'....so that's a story waiting to unfold, obviously!

The worst aspect so far has been the male/female divide. Mel has crossed over but only because she 'doesn't like women'....i.e. she constantly flirts and tries to enslave the blokes and all the girls think she is a tart. Obviously they aren't prepared to say that because they want to be liked, but 2 out of the 3 remaining women are lesbians and the third is a prick-teaser, which pretty well sums up most blokes' impression of trying to meet somebody in the modern world :-)

Leaving it down to the contestants to vote each other out has meant that the blokes win. The general public would have probably kept Caroline and Sada as they are so insufferable that it makes great telly watching the rest of them suffer! I reckon Scouse Craig and possibly Sada would have gone otherwise. They're all too scared to vote against the shaven headed dyke (not Jay, I hasten to add) but she'll be out soon. I have a horrible feeling that the public schoolboy will continue to smarm his way through, but the public will do for him in a one-to-one vote against the taciturn Irishman.

That's the one, Scratchy, Sada has worked out that if she walks then the one with the next most votes against them (wimpy Andy in this case) also has to leave. Now she will play the "I'm going" "no I'm not" game until Friday. Silly tart! The Scouser got it right when he reckoned Sada's fella will ditch her out of pure embarrassment when it's over.

Smarmy Nick is an utter bastard, isn't he? He's counting on the others not seeing how much he manipulates them until they've already left....thought he looked way too comfortable in that dress and makeup last night!

doesn't he get the farm cos he's the only lad in amongst 7 lasses? Is that sinister enough?

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

I missed the explanation! Has he let the others know yet? Reckon Sister Whatserface and Tank Girl will have something to say about that!

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

Don't know if it's any consolation Jay, but you're not the only one not watching. I thought Softie had lost his marbles when I read this with only his original posting on.

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

I haven't a clue what you're all talking about not being in the UK but this thread seems to be where all the action is so I'm gonna hang around and see what's going on ;)))

-- Anonymous, July 26, 2000

Really exciting viewing tonight. Brilliant fun.

-- Anonymous, July 28, 2000

Deliciously cruel tonight - making Sada listen to what everyone had said about her. She looked pretty cool and composed until she heard the bit in the greenhouse! The lesbian nun and the Irish farmer seem to be the only two who are vaguely human - and I bet he`s got a deep dark secret. The rest are so slappable! (:o)

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2000

Those fences definitely aren't to keep them in but the public with torches, pitchforks and lengths of rope out!!!

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2000

And my husband - who when he returned from his Friday night out with his mates, would have gladly gone in there with a baseball bat!!!(:o)

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2000

Nicholas is a sh*t, Melanie is a devious cow,Nichola is a raving exhibitionist( Those mirrors will crack if she cavorts in front of them much more !)Craig needs a brain transplant,Great T.V.! People you just love to hate, Sada got up their noses because she is the most intelligent of them all( not difficult). I thought she handled herself with dignity and great maturity last night!!!! Nicholas is at it again already, leading the other sheep...Sorry "blokes " into ganging up on the next women they want out.....Why could'nt they find any males with minds of their own for this programme !!!! Pilgrim's Wife.

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2000

To Pilgrim`s Wife! Weyhey!!! Great to have you posting. Quite agree with you about the `wannabees` - totally up themselves!!! Great isn`t it - don`t you just love to hate them!!!(:o)

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2000

Hi Galaxy, great to get a reply,What do you reckon to Caroline, will she be nominated next week !I think it will be her and another female, what will the blokes do when they have got rid of all the women or do you think one of the blokes will be next, pity they don't know what a rat nicholas really is ! Mrs Pilgrim.

-- Anonymous, July 29, 2000

Good Morning Mrs Pilgrim! Mum (Galaxy) has gone shopping, but we watch Big Brother together so I will answer for both of us when I say that we quite like Caroline. She seems a lot more genuine than most of the others, and I do believe the boys have a campaign to get rid of the girls first - but if it works it will be interesting to see who votes who out between themselves when the time comes!

Sadly, I don't think they are going to have enough votes between them, but I think the girls will try and vote Mel out as she is determined to disassociate herself with them and tart arpound with the men instead!

And if the general public could pick out of any of them, I can guarentee that the first to go would be Nicholas because he really is a complete s**t!!!

Pleased to meet you, and I hope to see you posting more frequently in the future!!! (;o)
