Sony Digital Camera and Extended Warranty

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

We just bought a Sony DSC-S70 digital camera. In general, are extended warranties for digital cameras worth getting. This one is for and additional 2 years for $150. I am worried about breaking the LCD since it is exposed on the back.

I would do it, even if you break the camera in 2 years you'll still get free repairs. You'd be appaled at the repair prices of digicams, its like fixing a monitor or printer. Most of the time its cheaper to replace than to repair and more often than not, items under warranty but long discontinued get replaced instead of repaired. Of course you gambling on a problem and most people take their chances, I bought a warranty for mine because I know if it does break, I have a leg to stand on with the warranty company. If you call Sony and get the labor and parts prices for the DSC-70 , $150 will seem like chump change, and of course these items are prone to breakage, all it takes it one wrong move.

However, you might be able to include it in your home and contents insurance policy. Just a thought.
