It's very interesting, but I bet it will be difficult for them to be thorough. I've been reading journals since 1996 or so (had one of my own for a while then, too). I remember a lot of people who aren't around anymore -- Chuck of Geek Tragedies is just one that comes to mind -- but it's hard to really know what happened to them. When people stop posting their journals they don't usually say what they're going to do next...they just disappear.

Actually, Cara and I found that tracking people down wasn't so tough (Open Pages archives exist and were very helpful in this). The main obstacle seems to me to be that people aren't that interested in talking about stuff that happened four or five years ago, especially if they're no longer a part of the diary "scene."
