USB Problems- Can read Lexar, Can't read SanDisk

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have a Nikon CoolPix (DK #) and an external JumpShot USB port. I can download the images from the Lexar 4x 64MB card without problems. We were out of town and left the memory card at home. We went to a store and bought a SanDisk 32MB card. I have taken several pictures with it and would like to download them. I put the card in the port and instead of the blinking light that means it is downloading, I get one quick blip and the computer tells me to check my connections. I believe the card is all the way into the reader. Do different brands need different software?

HELP PLEASE!

Anne

The jumpshot only works with Lexar USB enabled cards. Others like Sandisk make readers that will work with all CF cards. The Lexar cards will also work in those readers. The USB enabled cards have the controller chip built into the card.

If your camera came with a USB cable, you should be able to place the card in the camera and download it directly from the camera.

I wasn't sure you knew that considering the difficulty with the jumpshot, if so, please excuse the assumption.

Good Luck!

Get $30 PCMCI adapter or Paralle Port Reader.Much better speed. WINDOWS NT,2000, 98 DO NOT SUPPORT USB. Hate it.

Actually, Windows 2000 and 98 do support USB, only NT doesn't. And the new Windows XP also has support for USB. I use XP and 2000 and they have automatic support for the Sandisc readers, and under 98 you can use the drivers supplied with the reader.

I have Windows 98 and have the same problems as the questioner. However, when I connect my Nikon Coolpix cable to the USB port I get the same message. Both Nikon and Jumpshot don't work. I get the connections error as she does. I have that problem with all 4 of my cards, including Lexar and Sandisk.

Even win95 supports USB (there's a driver in the last version) and it works fine w W98 too! I use it with Sony, Canon and many other products. However, having being Win95 no more supported from Microsoft, I could download these drivers before Microsoft removed them: so who needs it, may drop me a line at daniele.carissimi@libero.it.
