Sony DSC-F505V: Is downloading possible from iMac to camera?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I may have been hallucinating but I believe I saw an article or disscussion regarding the ability to reload images back into the F505V from a computer using the supplied softwware (MGI PhotoSuite SE 1.0 for Mac) and USB. It certainly seems possible ,since my iMac DV LE displays the camera's file on the desktop and drag & drop copies the folders back into the file. And, although the Memory Stick icon in the F505V's LCD screen shows that something is occupying space, the "no file" status shows on the LCD. The iMac also displays an error msg. indicating that the file needs a "disk repair utility" run on it to capture all the appropriate info (sound/video/pictures)??? Would downloading from the Mac to a Memory Stick/floppy adapter inserted into SuperDisk be a possible work around? Oh yeah, I'm running the USB directly into the iMac (not a hub) so that doesn't appear to be the problem. Any help out there?

Yes, it is! I have Sony DSC-S30 and iMac233, and functionality is the same as Your DSC-F505V. I have connected it directly like you.

If You reloading images back to camera You must give it (in Finder not with MGI Photo suite) in The same place (folder) where camera saves shoted images. In my camera is it folder 100MSDCF. (description of folders on Memory stick is in User manual for camera)

Filepath on MacOS is UNNAMED/DCIM/100MSDCF where UNNAMED is diskname (camera icon on desktop) and DCIM is folder and 100MSDCF is subfolder for storing images. If You give images into different place in UNNAMED disk, images are stored in Memory stick, but You dont view it on LCD and their only "occupying space".

In Your camera of course You have more folders-for storing videos etc.

This "occupying space" I using for transfering files (Claris Works, ArchiCAD...) in cameras Memory stick, between my home and office.

*** You should use storage space of Your Memory sticks like removable media!!!!!! In Windows too!!! We have multiplaform removable media with USB connection and Digital still camera in one equipment!!! Isn't that fantastic?!!!!! No SuperDrive/Floppy needed!!! *** Im very happy with this undocumented functionality. In my camera bag I always have Sony CDRom with USB drivers for Mac/Win.

Good luck, and good shots.
