I read an interview where Mills (I think it was Mills; might have been Buck)was saying that the only theme running all the way through Up is "alien abduction." He claims that if you look, it's in every song. I'm pretty sure he was half-kidding, but all the same, I think about it every time I put the CD in. Some of the songs (Hope, Lotus, Parakeet), it's plausible if not completely obvious. Anyone have any theories on how this might fit with other songs on the album?

The album with the "Alien" theme is not UP it is New Adventures in Hi Fi. He said that apart from the "Rock and Roll/on the road" theme, the only other main theme is alien abduction, and that it is refered to in several songs. Dan

Obviously I don't see how Hi Fi can be about alien abduction.

I think Leave is supposed to be about alien abduction. At least that's as close to alien abduction as anything on NAIHF. I have a feeling whoever said that quote about alien abduction was joking anyway :)
