Porto sign Maric from Newcastle

LISBON, July 19 (Reuters) - Porto have signed Croatian attacking midfielder Silvio Maric from Newcastle United.

A statement from Portuguese premier league side Porto said the deal was definite but gave no financial details.

Sports daily Jogo said Porto had paid 600 million escudos - about £1.8million - to sign the 25-year-old from the Premiership club where he had been on the transfer list.

Porto, league runners-up last season after a five-year run as champions, are eager to replace Brazilian Mario Jardel, the league's top scorer, who recently joined Galatasaray.

Jogo said Porto had also signed Argentine player Juan Antonio Pizzi who last season played for Rosario Central in Argentina.   Still nothing from NUFC tho'
