2 tough guys

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

My neighbor is a member of the Disciplies of Christ, in our town. They have recently left the Disciplies movement. The preacher left although not because of this.During the time they are searching for a new man one of the members is preaching for them. So naturally he is preaching from Rev.and a pre Mil. view.

He preached from Rev 11 concerning the 2 witnesses. From her notes she has asked me who are the 2 witnesses. From my studies I have read many varied conclusions. At this point the only thing I am sure about is that I can not be sure. I asked her to let me get back to her on this.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Who are they?

What is the fire from their mouth?

Any suggestions for a good, simple commentary. I have More than Conquers, College Press series, Garreth Reese and have read G Barclay (sp).

There were two preachers who were good friends, both of whom were Millinealists.

The one preacher used to call his friend and say, 'I think we are the Two Witnesses.'

After a while, the preacher chagned his mind. He called up his friend and said, 'I think I was wrong about us being the Two Witnesses. I am both of them.'

For those who hold to a Millenial view, some think that Elijah and Enoch, two prophets who may not have died, may return to preach. I think this might be partially motivated by super-literalism, and not considering John the Baptist to have fulfilled the prophecy about the coming of Elijah. I've even heard of Elijah and Moses coming back. The SDA's seem to think Moses was resurrected, since they believe in soul sleep and Christ spoke in Moses on the Mount of Transfiguration.

It may be tha the Elijah-Enoch view is also spurred on by a belief in cessation of the gifts. Some Charismatics think that the two witnesses are two prophets that the Lord will raise up at the end times.
