From NUFC.COM report on our training session(by an American):

"A note on Newcastle's GK, Shay Given. While not as quick or big as Tommy Presthus, his ability to read the play in front usually put him in the right place at the right time. One particularly notable characteristic was is clearance practice. Nearly every pass out of the box hit a field player on target.

unbelievable!

it's obvious what is happening here Geordie. I did the very same last year; confusion betweem him and Harper, and the only way you can tell the difference at 100yards is the kicking. Harper hits the player, Shay misses the ball!! ;-)

One positive thing is the phrase "clearance practice". At least they recognise it's as nearly as important as the stopping.

ROBSON - If you're in the top six in English football, you're a very, very good team. We are a good team, we've got very good, experienced class players - Shearer, Rob Lee, Speed, Shay Given the goalkeeper, William Barton - they're all top grade professionals. We've added to the squad - we've spent about 12million pounds."

William Barton, that's a new one.
