New saets fiasco narrowly averted as ring leader allocated seats

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

After many hours waiting for the ticket office Ring back I got through and guess what, they've found a couple of rather good seats for me and my lad.Just posted this as a footnote to the N0 _Tickets_Left page. Many more postings were placed on the message board over the next few days. Letters and E Mails were written to the box office and board members of St James' park. Eventually I was allocated the two very good seats "In the heart of James' park" as the Radio advert says. From what I can gather I'll be sitting , with my son, very close to the new (#995) sports bar, and at a fraction of the cost. Obviously kicking up such a fuss didn't influence the allocation , or did it? I'll never know. As for the others affected? I have heard from some that have also been told that they will be getting a seat, but there still seems to be a lot of fans that were on the original list who at this moment have not been told wether or not they have a seat for next season. Newcastle United have to change the way they treat the fans. Whoever made the'first come first served decision , should come clean and say that in retrospect it was a VERY BAD decision. The way in which the letters were staggered so that not everyone received their applications at the same time was appalling. I'm sure that there will be many fans who return from there holidays to find application forms through their door, they will either not get a seat or have an inferior seat this surely isn't fair.

To celebrate my long wait, I've just been out to buy my new top for the new season. Look out for a geek wearing a shirt with www. Ntl: sports .com printed across the front with a happy 8 year old by his side. Looks like I'll have to give up watching games in a semi drunken state and become a model geordie father , taking his son to the match every other weekend.

Thanks to everyone who has contacted me, If you still have no joy, please persist with phoning the box office, when you eventually get through explain your situation, I'm sure that they will be able to find seats for the most persistent applicants if they have been waiting for a few years. If not, get in touch with me. I'll keep you posted on further outcomes on this page. If you've missed the last week on the bbs, YOU MISSED THIS

Congrats Rik!! We also have been told today that we have been allocated tickets in the North West corner - reckon this is due to us ringing every day and making a nuisance of ourselves. Looks like we will be near the away supporters.

Top news marra. You really deserve it.

And what's this rumour Screacher is spreading about you naming your kid after soon-to-depart Silvio ???

PS. Well done to True and all you other new ST holders too. Not jealous at all ..... !!

Congrats Rik, I thought you would get sorted, it is just a pity they didn't offer you those seats on Friday, it would have saved a lot of heartache.

Does that now mean that everyone who has been waiting for a while has now got tickets confirmed?

RIK

Great news!!!!!

all the best alan

Bliddy Hell Looney. You weren't supposed to highlight that. It's all part of the deal. Rik lets his lad go to Portugal in exchange for a couple of tickets. I wish somebody had made that offer to me a few years ago (only joking lads - honest!).

Starting to take on storm in a teacup overtones again. Does anybody think they're even aware of the aggro they've caused, even if it might be inadvertent ?

And all they had to do was just stick a notice in the Chron and Journal explaining the allocation process.

I was gob smacked in the pub last night to be told that the NUFC ticket allocation system is reckoned to be one of the best in the country, and even the makkems installed a similar system after their fiaso (things like being billed 3 times for the same ticket) when the stad of sh was opened. Quite a few other clubs have been to check it out as well, apparently. Hard to believe, eh ?

I think that my threat to buy a season ticket at the stadium of light and attend each game wearing an old newcastle shirt, finaly swayed things my way.

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2000

Didn't Sunderland have the problem where tickets were paid for but not despatched ending up with queues for the first home to receive "dummy" ST's

Top & bottom of it is they should never had rang Rik in the first place. When I rang they told me the section I had applied for was sold - out but I could have two seats below the away fans, I had to give the young lady her hands back in all the excitement. I knew I would get one but the two together was hopeful.

I still think you over reacted, it was all a joke by someone in the box office who knew you had a web site!!!!

And as for True, he was probably just caught up in your coat tails.

Grapes? Sour? Jealous? Me?
