I usually go to the Brick Layers Arms for a decent pint, Then into town. The town reminds me a little of Durham, but instead of students it's young farmers. If you like french food there is a Pierre Victoire restaurant, which I recommend. If the Floating curry house is still there give it a miss. I can't remember the name of the curry house I use but I will find out for you if you like, I just know it's upstairs over looking a cobbled street. The night clubs are very 'Clicky'(sp) and there is always a fight (mainly with the girls).
