ATI capture@352*288 doesnt work

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello, I always capture from a UK PAL vhs vcr, via composite leads into my ATI AIWP8mb agp 2x card, but everytime i try at 352*288, i always experience 'horizontal banding' ie the picture 'splits horizontally'. Does anyone know why? My sys is...W98SE, p3 500, 128mb ram, Fujitsu 17gb 5400 rpm UDMA66 hd and ABIT be6 m/board, all of my drivers are upto date. I always defrag first and dont have any progs running in the background. Any help would be appreciated, at the moment i have to settle for 352*240 and then resize using a software mpeg encoder, the resultant vcd's are pretty good, although i'd like to tackle this problem.

Thanks a lot,

Andy.

Check your ATI drivers- If you have completed more than one complete installation of various ATI driver releases, then you possibly have fragments of old ATI drivers still left on your system.

This is NOT a good thing to have-this will affect your whole system. I have spoken to ATI many times until i carried out the procedure as stated in my above posting.

I would even go as far as to say that all ATI AIW owners should check to see if they have a clean install.

It makes a world of difference.

Although this procedure takes care of the well known ATI drivers Windows registry problems -it is a procedure you have to take GREAT care whilst doing.
